"Welcome back, Arisato-san!"

Akihiko looks back over the couch towards the dorm's front door, as Minako arrives. He pauses for a moment, looking back towards his book for support. He's aware that the rumour about Minako's partner cheating on her is supposedly fake, but, well... It hasn't ceased. And it's even reached Gekkoukan.

Akihiko is aware the cheerful second year might be putting on a brave face, and he's certainly not great with emotional support. But, still... He should do something!

"Arisato-san, if you don't have any other plans actually, would you want to go on a jog with me? Just to the shrine and back." Akihiko offers a smile. "Just let me know, so I can change."

"Hey, Sanada-senpai," Minako says, as she walks through the front door.

She heard about the rumors -- and she had been reassured. But... then other things happened. She smiles at him, and blinks -- her head tilted to the side. She looks surprised at the invitation, but not at all in a bad way. Instead, there is a quick nod of her head.

"Sure," she says, with an easy smile. "Let me go get changed too!"

"Perfect." Akihiko snaps his book shut. "Back down in five?"

In soon time, they've changed and are out the door to enjoy the crisp autumn air. It'll be winter soon, maybe in another month or two. It's best to enjoy it while it's here.

Akihiko on his part dressed for the season in his Gekkou High tracksuit, gray and red. In a small bag, he carries some supplies and his Envoker. He naturally reported their planned absence to Mitsuru too. Even if Strega may have taken a step back recently, it's best to be on guard.

Akihiko keeps pace alongside Minako, not about to go up ahead like he otherwise do. Tatsumi is quiet in the evenings at least, and they can see the local people closing out their days. Aki's focus meanwhile is on Minako, of whom he steals a couple glances. Jeez, he's really bad at this kind of stuff...

"...How are you holding up, Arisato?" He asks, cautiously. "I know it can't be easy, having your relationship be the subject of ridiculous gossip. If you'd like to talk about it..."

Then, there's his own issues. Shinji. Sudou. Goro Akechi. Well, it's easier to listen, than talk. Maybe when there's a good point to bring it up, he can?

"Sounds like a plan!" Minako says.

And, in due time, she is changed -- a red-and-white Gekkoukan T-shirt and black shorts. A small bag, with an over-the-shoulder strap, holds her Evoker and her student ID if she needs it. She waves at him, and then she starts jogging -- and she is a little surprised when he is quiet, at first.

She looks at him, an eyebrow raised. Then, there's a blink. "Ah..." She trails off. "...Yeah. Um, it's... it wasn't easy. We... uh."

She winces. "...we broke up. It wasn't over the rumors, though."

She looks forward as she jogs -- not smiling, but her expression more neutral.

Akihiko blinks, as he hears Minako drop the bombshell. "Oh. I'm sorry." He looks away. Damn it. He wishes he could say something more. Working it out might help at least a little bit at least! "Would you want to talk about it?" A beat. "If he's wrong you at all... I'm sure Takeba-san and I could help." He jokes. He likes Amamiya well enough...

Just a little less now.

"If sharing alone is too much as well..." Akihiko starts, a little awkwardly. "I have something I wanted to ask you about too." And then he just stops talking until they reach a crossing light. "Arisato-san, how do you feel on vengeance?"

"It was..." Does she want to talk about it? Minako isn't sure. She settles for talking about it and not lying, even if she hesitates. "...It was hard to keep life in SEES separate. I had to... to hide so much, and it felt like I was always lying. So... I ended it."

She glances sideways at Akihiko -- and she cracks a smile. "No, it's okay. I wasn't wronged. I, uh--" A beat.

Vengeance.

"How... um." She hesitates. "This isn't about Amamiya, riiiight?"

"Mm. No one talks about the work-life balance before joining, huh? Maybe that should be apart of the SEES orientation." Akihiko lets out a laugh. Although... "I don't think we have vow of secrecy. Couldn't you have told him about SEES?" Well. Understanding the Dark Hour and Persona users at all aside...

"No, no..." Akihiko replies quickly. Snort. "About something else." A beat. "You know Shinji and I met in an orphanage together, right? There's more of a story there... When I was about to be adopted out... That orphanage suffered a fire. My younger sister died in it."

A beat. Akihiko doesn't talk about this very often. "I, uh... Found out recently, that fire was arson. Done by the Joker Killer. He's dead now, I've heard, so it's a done question. But Shinji wanted my help in revenge and..." Akihiko lets out a sigh. It's A Lot. "I don't know. I don't think I could."

"True enough," Minako says, with a shake of her head. "And... no, I--I couldn't. He--" She feels awkward, as ever, not using Ren's preferred gender. But they aren't out, and that means being cautious. "He doesn't know about Personas, Dark Hour, any of it. I couldn't tell him, without... you know. Without risking his life."

She glances sideways at Akihiko. Her eyes widen as she hears that. The orphanage -- she knew about that. She heard a little about the fire. "I--I'm... I'm so sorry, senpai. If I lost Minato-kun, I... I can't even imagine." She looks back down. "I... don't know. Revenge might sound nice--and... the Joker Killer is... is someone the world is better off without."

She hesitates. "But, revenge... I don't know. Would it make you feel better? Would it give you any peace, senpai?"

Sadly, Akihiko doesn't know either. He's a bit stupid about gender anyhow- "Mm..." Akihiko thinks for a moment on his perspective of Ren Amamiya. "I think he might've understood. He seems like a smart guy, at any rate." Risking his life on the other hand, that's reasonable. He doesn't think the Dark Hour is a Schrodinger's Cat type deal, but who can say?

"But it's okay for you to risk yours?" He asks, unintentionally direct. Akihiko blinks in surprise at himself. "Ahem. Sorry, I didn't mean to put it like that." He coughs into his hand awkwardly. "What I mean... Is if you could have trusted him a little more?"

"It was years ago." Akihiko says reflectively. He's not great at receiving condolences. Never have. "I'm lucky to have had a good life with a supportive family. I've found my peace." He's lying without meaning to. That feeling of weakness back then is still haunting him. He just doesn't cry anymore.

Would it have been strong? Would it have been kind? "No." That's not the end of it. "I just feel... I don't know. Empty about it. Maybe a bit guilty. Like I maybe should've helped. He was a bad guy... But I just. Didn't do anything." It happened without him. It was something Shinji cared a lot about.

"Maybe," Minako says. "But even if he understood... he doesn't have a Persona. He might understand -- but once he's aware of Dark Hour, if he's awakened during it, then... he's in dangerous. And... we can't just tell people everything happening with SEES." She shakes her head. "So something would happen, and I couldn't tell him -- about what we're doing or why. Or why I was hurt, or where I was going."

She looks sideways at Sanada -- and then she realizes. He didn't ''decide'' to not go after the Joker Killer. He was frozen. She hesitates, then she looks over at him and smiles.

"It's okay," she says. "I mean... it's okay to not know, and to need to figure it out. And... maybe, you think about it -- about what you'd want to do, next time -- and it'll help make the decision next time something like this comes up."

She hesitates, for a moment. "I... don't think that I'd want revenge, in your situation. I don't think it would sit right with me."

"Yeah... But that could've happened at any point regardless, before or after you." Akihiko says. "It's difficult to tell what exactly causes someone who gets afflicted with Apathy Syndrome." Thinking about it... "If he knew, he might know to protect himself better too."

A beat. "Ugh, I'm sorry. I don't mean to be arguing with you on this, actually." Men. "It would've been tough regardless."

Incredibly nice callout, Minako. ~~Got the player too~~

They reach the Naganaki Shrine and Akihiko...feeling very seen, leans against the wall, next to the stairs up. He thought he killed this weak side of himself. He meant to, at least. Aki does smile a little. "One can hope." He takes a sharp breath in. "It wouldn't have brought Miki back. And I wouldn't have felt good about it." He pauses. "Is that really enough, Arisato?"

"Yeah, but... it also could have put him at risk. There's no way to know. It's..." She sighs. Then, Akihiko apologizes -- and she blinks at him, before she gets a small smile. "Thanks, Sanada-senpai. It still..." A sigh. "...still sucks."

She leans against the opposite wall, as they reach the shrine. She blinks -- and then she smiles a little more. "It's... I mean. I can't say for sure if it's enough," she admits. "But... if you wouldn't have felt good about it... then I think that means something."

She nods. "And sometimes, you gotta trust your gut!"

"That it does..." Akihiko scratches the back of his head. "For what it's worth, I hope feeling better soon. You can always rely on us to offer a hand." He says, seriously.

Akihiko offers a small little smile in return. "Thank you, Arisato. I...really hope this was the best decision." He admits. Goro had...really gotten in his head about it. "Let's take a small break before heading back." A beat. "Care for a prayer while we're here?"

"Thanks, Sanada-senpai. I really appreciate that," Minako says, with a sincere smile. Then, she frowns for a moment -- Goro. Akechi. He was at the orphanage too.

And he had gotten at Shinjiro about everything.

"Sounds like a plan," she says. "Never hurts to do a prayer at the shrine!"
