- Summary: Lisa needs to get away for a while--and happens to get away into Yukari's proverbial backyard. They find themselves becoming friends easily, though neither is entirely sure why.
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
Lisa Silverman has been dealing with a lot lately. A lot!! And now, on top of all that, she ran into some wild photographers in Aoba, from whom she had to flee. She does need to get back home eventually--she has more finals tomorrow--but she got on the train, got out, and ended up...
Well, ended up out here! If she really got lost she could call her manager, but...
Whatever. It's evening, and a girl in a Seven Sisters uniform is walking along the outside edge of Paulownia Mall, her wanderings having taken her out here to Port Island. The bay is pretty, but...
Lisa stops next to one of the fountains and slumps with a big sigh. "Houshounah..."
She's avoided more Looks anyway. ...Well, not all of them. She is a white girl in Tatsumi.
<Pose Tracker> Yukari Takeba has posed.
Yukari Takeba sure knows what it's like to be dealing with a lot. So much so that not even everyone in SEES, who knows about her double life knows how much.
But she's figuring it out, one step at a time, how to navigate the path forward. Which is all well and good until midterms started today.
"Ugh... pretty sure I did fine, but I feel like all those equations are gonna fall right out of my head."
A quick mall trip was her intention, to clear her head. She'd studied a lot, so she needs to not overdo it. She'll go back to the dorm for one final review tonight.
Walking towards the mall, she initially intends to do what most Japanese people do upon seeing a white girl walking around.
Glance, then look away, hoping you didn't get noticed and have to speak English to someone perfectly fluent!
However, a certain detail causes her not to keep walking, that being the Seven Sisters Uniform. That's an important detail! Because if she's going to High School in Japan, it means she speaks Japanese...!
And that posture, that big ol' sigh. Yeah, she can relate to that. She adjusts her bag over the shoulder upon her pink cardigan, and steps right up.
"Hey there. Everything alright?" She asks, with a note of sympathy, "You're pretty far from Sumaru City, during exam week and... you look a little lost... so I wanted to check and be sure."
Sure Yukari has heard announcements of a new Idol group, the MUSES, but she hasn't seen any of the promotional material, so she's not about to recognize her on sight.
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
One step at a time...
Indeed, Lisa's definitely not going to ask Yukari to speak English. But she isn't going to ask anything, at first--not until Yukari suddenly asks her something. "Eh?" Lisa starts, blinking in surprise as she looks to the other girl. "Aiyah--"
"...Ah, ha ha... Sorry-ia," she starts. "I didn't mean to worry you!"
But...
"But is it that obvious?" she wonders. "I'm not sure where I am," Lisa admits. "I just... had to get out of where I was."
She straightens. "N-not that you asked the details, I guess."
"I just needed to get out of Sumaru for a while, so I'm.. sure out of Sumaru!!"
Her face falls a little. She must look pretty pathetic if it's that obvious. At least this girl doesn't recognize her immediately. Which--
"Oh," she says. "I'm Lisa. Lisa Silverman. It's... nice to meet you."
<Pose Tracker> Yukari Takeba has posed.
Well, she seems to speak really good Japanese, but that dialect is... weird? She doesn't pick up the Cantonese really, not many people speak it on a day to day basis in Japan, much less intersperse it within their Cantonese.
"Hey, that's alright. And it kinda is? ... To me at least." She clarifies, but what she says sheds some light, 'I just... had to get out of where I was.' "Well I don't mind giving you directions but- if you need a distraction, I wouldn't mind giving you one? At least for a while! I have to get back to review for Exams in a few hours, at the latest."
She chuckles lightly at that, "Well you sure are! This is... Paulownia Mall, on Tatsumi Port Island. You're about two hours away from Sumaru City, if you need directions- I happen to know Sumaru City pretty well...! I go there all the time."
Then she introduces herself. Huh, very Western kind of name, despite her perfect Japanese. "Risa." Yukari inflects, she's not very good with L's in English, "Well it's nice to meet you, Sirvelman-san."
Look she's trying at least! "I'm Yukari Takeba. A second year at Gekkoukan High."
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
"Aah.." At least it's just a regular vocalization instead of specific non-Japanese words this time. It's obvious to Yukari. "Really?" she asks. "...Thanks." It's nice of her. "I gotta get back after a while, too..."
Paulownia Mall. "Least I made it to the mall," she comments. "Aiyah... two hours. It felt like a while, but..."
Lisa doesn't complain about the pronunciation. She can only do 'L's because of her name. Even then...
"Oh, I'm a second year, too. At Sevens." Seven Sisters High School.
"Aah! It's awkward just being all sad and pathetic," she says. "So I won't!" She wipes her eyes and straightens up, kicking on her heels.
"I had to get away from some people," she says. "Nothing bad, or anything. But it was really annoying."
"So what do you do for fun around here, Takeba-san?"
<Pose Tracker> Yukari Takeba has posed.
"Don't mention it. Girls like us, we need to look out for each other." Is the way she puts it, "And well, then, that works out!"
The way though she didn't notice the time passing, "Huh well, you must have been really distracted. That's fine though, it'll work out."
Yukari beams at her, "Hey, same year. Even better." No considerations of her being an upperclassman, or a lowerclassman. That's great for her.
"I get it..." She really does, she doesn't EVER want to look sad or pathetic either, "... but hey, don't look at it that way. You're just... having a moment? It happens to the best of us, right?"
She frowns some at having to get away from people, "... Well... let's just say I can relate to that a lot?"
Maybe she labels her Mother as more bad, but she used to leave the house any time she brought a new boyfriend home, or shut herself in her room if she was already up there.
"Around here? Well there's Club Escapade, but it's not really open yet."
She's not a big clubber mostly because clubbing means 'every guy is hitting on her' - often adults as well. She just figures it's something to mention.
"But, there's also karaoke at Mandragora, it's up that flight of stairs over there?" As she nods in that direction, "You wanna kill some time there? I sure don't mind..."
There's also an arcade behind her, but she didn't mention it, she must not be a gamer.
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
Like them! Lisa likes being a 'like them' with somebody as fashionable-seeming as Yukari. "I was," Lisa admits about being super distracted. And actually smiles back. "Yeah!"
Yukari gets it--and Lisa thinks she might, actually. But just having a moment...? "Ehhh..." She thinks about it. "I guess everybody does. But I don't love that it's my turn, right?"
"I guess that doesn't surprise me. A lot of girls do, huh...?" Expectations.
"A club, huh? Nice--" Pause. "Oh, I mean... We're... totally too young for those," she says dubiously, and it doesn't sound convincing even to her.
"Karaoke, huh?" She wonders. She thinks about it. ...But then, if Yukari realizes who she is...
"Aaah, that's..."
She hesitates.
<Pose Tracker> Yukari Takeba has posed.
"Well nobody said you had to." Yukari says with a smile, "All I'm going for is a little less mopey."
It's a better word than sad or pathetic at least!
Lisa notes they're too young, and Yukari shrugs, "Yeah, to be honest I haven't gone myself, I just brought it up because well... there's only so much to do around here?"
She looks apologetic, "Besides, two high school girls, all we'd do is attract the attention of a lot of skeevy guys."
Lisa is obviously hesitant about Karaoke, though Yukari isn't quite certain why. She just figures she's self-conscious about singing in front of someone she just met. That's common enough.
"Oh-! Well we don't have to. We have a music store over here too. Or we could just sit down at Chagall for a while. I could probably use a cop of coffee before heading back anyway."
She's at least offering some alternates! "Or we could just head back towards the station and talk on the way. There's a few places we could get a bite to eat at the Strip Mall across the street."
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
"Less mopey I can do!" Two big V-signs.
But, Yukari shrugs and, "...Yeah," she says. Then she considers. She's lying to a girl who's helping her... So, "I used to," she says instead. "But I'm not supposed to do that kind of thing, so I probably shouldn't. That makes sense, though. In Sumaru, we've got Yumezaki, which... well, you said you know Sumaru." So she knows how much there is to do there.
"Music store!" Lisa repeats, and thats' worse, but--"Oh, the cafe sounds great. I could totally use some coffee," Lisa agrees. But there are a lot of other places...
"No," she says, "It's fine."
"...Let's get some coffee. It's on me, OK? Since you're being so nice." And then she can tell her about...
<Pose Tracker> Yukari Takeba has posed.
"Hehe..." A soft giggle at the two big V's, "...well then, I'll count that as a success on my end!"
And then Lisa speaks about night clubs, and as she mentions Yumezaki... Yukari's eyes fall a little slack.

It's like a bass rhythm thumps in her head. A strobe like idea of a person in silhouette...
"That's odd... for some reason I kinda thought..."
... and then it's gone. Slipping out of her consciousness like a dream or... nightmare.
"... You know it doesn't matter what I thought!" She says quickly, in recovery.
What was that?
Maybe all these late nights are getting to me after all...
"Chagall it is!" She says, enthusiastic to just get off the topic of clubs, all of a sudden. "Well, if you're sure, then I accept your generous offer!"
You know for a white girl, Lisa isn't any different from any other Japanese Girl? Some people say only Japanese can be Japanese, but- it seems to prove that wrong.
Once in Chagall, and at a booth, they both have a cup of pheromone coffee. "Well I guess, hmmm-! How about you tell me the kind of things you like to do." She suggests. "I'm kinda curious after all that!"
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
Yukari seems to look funny for a moment, after that successful talk. ...But jsut a moment. Lisa has a feeling, for some reason. A feeling of... an ache, somewhere.
What is it...?
"Okay!"
Chagall! And Lisa grins. "Hoisamuro!" she says cheerfully, and that is definitely neither Japanese nor English. "Great. Let's go!"
And at the booth, with the coffee, "Sure! I like kung fu movies!" Lisa says cheerfully. "I love watching them, or learning stuff from them. I like dancing! Aaand.."
"Well," she says, leaning in, "I used to like going out to dance," she says, at clubs. "And karaoke with my friends. But the reason I was so weird about it is..."
"I kinda do it as a job? ...Like, when I'm not at school. The thing I was trying to get away from was these photographers who wouldn't leave me alone..."
"It's not like we're a huge deal or anything, so I figured getting out of Sumaru i wouldn't get recognized so easy."
"But youv'e been so nice... I don't want to keep why I'm out here from you."
She's very different from--
...From who, exactly? That other girl... she never was.
<Pose Tracker> Yukari Takeba has posed.
She's going to try not to worry about it. She has plenty of things that are far EASIER to worry about than a weird moment. But you know? For some reason, she feels even more drawn to Lisa than before.
"Another one-!" She seems startled, before noting, "Oh sorry! You just use some words that I can't make heads or tails of. I can't even place the dialect..."
She does call attention to it, as they go in. "Oh really! Kung Fu movies?" Wow, she's kind of a Tomboy, but that's pretty cool, actually, "That's pretty cool. I watched a few with my Dad growing up."
She really liked the Kung Fu girls at least, even if they were almost always love interests. Still, it didn't inspire her to take up Kung Fu as her image of strong femininity.
"Oh yeah! Well- I do really like Dancing. Hehe... believe it or not, as a kid I said stuff like 'I wanna be the Disco Queen!'" She chuckles at that, "Man that was old fashioned even back then. I wonder where I got that from?"
She tilts her head, then there's a shrug, as she takes a sip of coffee, however then Lisa says she does karaoke like as a job, "Oh! Like a part time thing? That's really cool." She says with a smile, but it sours, "Photographers? Were some boys being really creepy to you while you were working?"
She shakes her head, "I once had a boy try to take an upskirt picture of me on the monorail, luckily he got chased off before he could get anything!"
Yukari has no idea whatsoever that it is what it is. After all, who'd think a girl she just met was a new idol or something?
"Anyhow, are you going to be alright going back to work?" She asks, as if concerned.
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
Easier!! ...But Lisa finds herself drawn to Yukari, too. Maybe that's why...
"--Aiyah!" Another one. "Sorry," she says, the regular Japanese sorry, "I didn't think about it. It's Cantonese! I've been learning it for a while. So I can watch the original movies!" The kung fun movies.
"...My Dad was always more into Japanese stuff," she says. "He wants me to study aikido if i have to do martial arts at all."
"Nice," Lisa answers about Disco Queen. "Old-fashioned, but fun! A kid saying that is cool!"
A part time thing? Well, technically. "Oh no," she says of the boys, "Well, not this time..." That definitely also happens though. "Kehhei! I can't stand guys like that!"
"I'll..." She shakes her head. "I'll be fine," she says. "They won't be there when i get back. It's just kind of a thing, I guess. Since we were in that movie, it's gotten worse..."
<Pose Tracker> Yukari Takeba has posed.
"Cantonese?" Yukari asks, curious, like she doesn't get why for movies but then suddenly, "Ohhhh! I see! Wow- that'll be so useful too if you ever want to take a trip to China."
Yukari herself doesn't really ever want to do that but she gets how it'd be useful!
"Aikido huh?" She considers the matter a little, "Well I kinda get why your Dad would think that way at least... but it's kinda old fashioned, right?"
Like Yukari doesn't want to do any martial arts other than a feminine one but, girls can be strong right? Even if they have some limitations, it's not like it was in the past...!
"Hehe... thanks! It always sounded kind of fun I guess? When I was a kid at least...!"
Lisa though turns to the discussion about work and- "Well that's a relief...!" Before, "Me neither. Like, can't they find anything better to do than harass us?"
And then, she smiles, "Yeah maybe just take some time to yourself when you get back anyway, you know? It might help you get your..."
...
...
...
...
"... wait, movie? Like as an... extra? Or cameo role or...?" Yukari asks, not because she doesn't believe Lisa could be an actress, but just because it's not one's first thought for a teenager their age.
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
"Yeah!" she says. "It's fun either way," she says. "But I think I'd rather go to Hong Kong..." Travel, huh? Well, she's thought a little about it.
But, "It's super old-fashioned, just like everything else he likes," she sighs. "Mom, too..."
It was fun!1 But on work, Lisa has to say, "Seriously. I mean, I get being persistent, but there's nothing romantic about upskirt shots." Lisa Silverman, in any world, is not going to tell someone to be faint-hearted in love.
Yukari smiles at her, and then--
"I did it again, huh?" she says. "It was a cameo, though. Maybe you've seen it, it was this horror flick with a really cool actress in it," she says. "We--the MUSES, I mean--had a role in a party scene. ...Sheba and Meepo are already back home being sensible," she says, lifting her coffee, "But not me!"
<Pose Tracker> Yukari Takeba has posed.
"Oh yeah? What would you like to do in Hong Kong, besides well, you know, the usual sight-seeing?"
She nods like she gets it but the truth is, she wishes she had a Dad around trying to have expectations of her. Or a Mom either for that matter.
It's something she's a bit jealous about.
"... I don't even get being persistent." She waves a hand as if she were gesticulating, "Way too many boys in my class won't take no for an answer. It's really annoying, some of them have even made it into some game. Luckily I think I figured out a way to make them get the message..."
Physical PAIN, in other words.
A cameo, she nods, "Oh yeah? Which one? Iiiii do sometimes catch horror films." She doesn't like watching them alone.
But then, a slow nod, then a blink, then a- "Eh?" In confusion, before, "Eh!?" Again, then "Ehhhhhh!? You're one of the MUSES!?"
Ordinarily she wouldn't believe it, but she's PRETTY SURE she remembers the names and - yes, Lisa was one of them.
"Well how about that. I didn't exactly expect to meet an idol about to make her debut on the way home from midterms." She chuckles, then shakes her head, "I guess I wasn't really considering the whole 'scale' of these problems correctly..."
Tapping her fingers on the side of the coffee cup, "Well I guess you're gonna have to come up with your own way to deal with Paparazzi? I don't think you owe it to them to be sensible... just, your fans right?"
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
"Mostly that," Lisa says, "But I'd get to see some of the places from the movies!" She beams.
But Yukari... hmmm. "Ugh," she says. "A game, huh? ...I don't really like the kind of person who'd use romance for stuff like that. Your feelings should be sincere, if you're going to have feelings about it. ...That's what I think, anyway."
Paaaaaain. "Good!"
"SMILE," Lisa answers.
But confusion--but Yukari is immediately cool about it, so after LIsa winces, she looks on her in obvious relief.
"I didn't expect to end up on an artificial island!" Lisa answers brightly. "...it's OK. I was kinda vague. I didn't want to seem like I was bragging or something, but I didn't want to be lying about it..."
A pause. "Mm. I guess so. I can't just punch them," she sighs, as if that's an actual solution she thought about. "But that's true. It's just the fans we're supposed to be nice to. But I can't exactly go pushing around the ones who might be fans, either..."
"I shouldn't complain, though. I just never expected all this. I didn't even know Meepo'd put our photo up until our manager contacted us..."
"Anyway," she says, "I feel better, talking to you, Takeba-san. I dunno why! But I do."
<Pose Tracker> Yukari Takeba has posed.
"Ohhhhh! I see now!" But wow, Lisa is REALLY into these Kung Fu movies, isn't she? She wouldn't have expected that of an Idol.
"... Yeah, it's because I've never had a boyfriend, but have rejected... pretty much every guy in my year." She sighs aloud, and Lisa might get the sense she's not bragging. She actually hates it.
"They make it all a sort of thing on who is going to be the first guy to 'conquer' me, which gets other guys to 'shoot their shot' I guess." She rolls her eyes. "... Yeah, I agree. I guess I just don't want someone to confess to me out of nowhere? It has to be more than just that..."
SMILE!
"Oh hey, I have heard of that one. Haven't seen it yet though." There's something of a laugh, "Yeah I guess it must feel kinda random? But hey if you were looking for a place to hide out from the Paparazzi from, there are worse places!"
Not many have worse places than the place that has Tartarus, but there certainly must be SOME!
'I can't just punch them,' "Hmm, I guess that's true. Though don't hesitate if they really step out of line!" She says emphatically, "They gotta know there are just some things you just don't do following around a girl our age."
She never expected this... it's kinda ironic to Yukari, who wants to be a model one day, just considering all the difficult paths to do it and- this girl just sorta lucked her way right into it, not even intending to do it!
But as jealous as she might be about that, she doesn't resent it!
"... Yeah... me too, actually? You wanna exchange numbers? Though- I'd get it if you don't think you should! Like... you gotta be careful with that. Just... I figure, if you ever get in that place again and need someone to talk to..."
<Pose Tracker> Lisa Silverman has posed.
<poem> "Ohhh..." Lisa, of course, has been on a lot more dates than Yukari, but, "That's no good! That's not how 'love' works at all!" Lisa is passionate about this subject, too. She doesn't share everything with Yukari on these matters--but she can agree that nobody wants to just be 'conquered'.
The kind of person who'd just go after someone for status or pride... Lisa doesn't like that kind of person very much.
Is that strange? It shouldn't be strange. So why...?
"Heh. I'll keep it in mind!" Lisa nods twice, that's how sure she is. "Yeah!"
"Oh--" Lisa smiles brightly. "I'd like that!" she says. "Nothing wrong with making friends!"
...Right? There's no rule about platonic friends??
"...I'd appreciate that. I don't want to drop Sheba or Meepo down with my worries, so..."
"Anyway I'll show you one of these days I can be fun, too!"
