Monad Application
The Basics
Please tell us who you are on the MUSH! We need to know this in case we need to get in contact with you about your submission. If you don't currently play on Velvet Room MUSH, we won't accept a Monad application.
Monad Purpose
Please describe the Monad deck that you are submitting. Is it intended for a specific plot? Is it tied to a specific character or group? Is it intended for repeated use, or is it a one-shot? Does the deck describe a specific physical location, or is it a broader type of situation? Where does it fit into the MUSH's setting? This will help us get a better feel for your submission. These will be covered more briefly in the next section but this is where you should explain your intent to us -- but it doesn't need to be long or detailed! Sometimes the purpose of a Monad is very simple.
Monad Details
Give us some basic information about the deck you're submitting. This describes the deck to players who are interested, and is visible in +monad/info. These can be put into the Monad Setting Spreadsheet.
- Name: What is the deck's name?
- Difficulty: Is the difficulty of the deck Normal, Hard, or Very Hard? The average Difficulty for a Normal Monad should be between 1 and 2, the average Difficulty for a Hard Monad should be between 2 and 3, and the average Difficulty for an Very Hard Monad should exceed 3.
- Type Tags: Indicate any special tags (Supernatural, Non-supernatural, Plot, Repeatable, Non-Repeatable, General). Note that these are mutually exclusive (Plot vs General, Supernatural vs Non-Supernatural, Repeatable vs Non-Repeatable)
- Location: Indicate where on the game this is! Sometimes, a Monad is not in a real world location and this is normal; you will still want to indicate where this is (e.g. 'Character Name's Palace', or 'Mementos').
- Description: A brief description of the deck for people who want to run it. What is it like inside the Monad? Is there anything special about it that people should keep in mind, or any OOC notes?
Monad Content and Building Guidance
Give us the text of each card in the deck you're submitting. You may want to use the Monad Setting Spreadsheet found here (make your own copy of this):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rgrZL4Otx4Oxm6tBuzQZQIrY-hFLwFSEZGHbZNOt8kY/edit?usp=sharing
Keep in mind that a deck must have at least one card for each round (numbered 1 through 5) for the Monad proper, and at least two Revelation cards, one Passage card, and one Withdraw card (all Monad resolution cards will be number 6 under round). A card may be flagged to appear in multiple rounds (e.g: 1 2 3 4 5 if it can be triggered on any exploration round); once triggered, it will not play again -- keep this in mind when building decks!
The above is the bare minimum for deck size. For Monads meant to be run more than once, there should be more cards for rounds 1 through 5 for properly randomized play; our recommendation is about 2-4 possible cards per round for a deck without a time-limited requirement. Note that Monads support prerequisites: if you want to have a card only be triggered by an encounter of an earlier card, you can use this field in the spreadsheet to indicate this. Prerequisites are optional and not a requirement. Resolution cards may take prerequisites.
Unless specifically tailored to one trait--or if is a one-use Monad tailor-made for one party to run--the deck should have approximately equivalent amounts of challenges including each trait. This does not need to be exact, as stated: if you have totals of 6 Academics, 6 Guts, 5 Charm, 6 Proficiency, and 5 Understanding, for example, this is acceptable. What we want to avoid is a situation where players enter a Monad with a strong skew towards particular stats without being aware of it: Monads like this are permitted but should be noted in the Monad description field. The same is true for challenge difficulty.
Required Checklist
- Are there approximately equivalent numbers of challenges for each trait?
- Does your average difficulty fall into the range for your deck's described difficulty rating? A Normal Monad should be between 1 and 2, a Hard Monad should be between 2 and 3, a Very Hard Monad should exceed 3.
- Do you have at least one challenge per round (1-5)?
- Do you have two Revelation cards, one Passage card, and one Withdraw card?
- Have you filled out the Type tags for the dig (Supernatural, Non-Supernatural, Plot, etc)?
- Have you given us the basic information about the Monad (its Name, Difficulty, Location and Description)?
If the answer to these six questions is yes, please send your application to velvetroommush@gmail.com. It should have the following subject line: "Monad - Deck Name." We will process Monads within three weeks of receiving them; they will go out on the Wednesday following three weeks after they are received.
