Background
Rain was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii for the first 14 years of her life. Her father worked for the US arm of a Japanese software company, stationed in a Hawaii office for easy travel back and forth between the two coasts. As Rain was about to enter high school, her father got a promotion that required the family to relocate to Tokyo on a permanent basis. Initially feeling disconnected from her own culture, she fell in with a group of friends united around an appreciation for American cinema, particularly imported copies of old B-movies. She attended college for journalism and worked as a movie critic for a lifestyle magazine for several years before taking over a small movie store in Shibuya, rebranding it as Aloha Video as a nod to her roots.
