Requests
On the Velvet Room MUSH, the staff have made a certain investment in the success of all of our players. You want to tell good stories, and we're here to help! But in order for us to help, we're asking players to help us too by going through the proper procedure. For this, whenever you require staff assistance or clarification, or have a need for our sign-off, we have a formalized request system in place. In order to file a request, first we ask that you please utilize the e-mail at velvetroommush@gmail.com that we use for processing applications.
Note that our schedule runs Friday to Wednesday. That is to say, requests and applications received by Friday will generally be worked on by the next Wednesday. Note that certain requests will take longer than a week and should be understood as such.
In order to process the requests properly, we ask that it be done in the format of Request - Category - Title, wherein Category uses one of the categories below and Title is simply a brief blurb of what it is.
With that in mind, let's talk about the categories!
Character
Character requests are related to a character you play in the game. They can be anything as simple from adjustments of fields on their +finger, to stat adjustments in Monad System or Arcana System. Don't use this request for Advancement. More details will be coming soon on this! Instead, it is merely for adjustments of existing stats, fixing attack lists, or more.
For requests that adjust your stats, we ask that you detail the adjustments in the request, and fill out a spreadsheet which is located here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14Aiw9ttoQKq0DhrSTyxr4yDmwdgYk0TAsOMZ5ehmwhE/edit?usp=sharing
Plot
This request covers any plot requests that require staff approval or assistance. In general, you can run plots that involve your character just getting together on the grid, no sweat! But if you require the use of NPCs that weren't covered in your application, combat scenes that cannot be arranged simply by contacting and collaborating with other players, or anything that changes the status quo of the setting in any significant way, then we need you to file the paperwork, and wait for approval.
Mind you, the staff reserves the right to deny requests. Niche-protecting characters and their narratives is important to thematic integrity. Certain requests may not meet the tone of the game. And still others, such as 'I wish to fight Nyarlathotep behind the local Junes and take his place,' are just not possible to the average character.
If we don't feel your plot request fits, we will ask that you rework it to something that does. This isn't meant to be an insult to your ideas if we do! We're just responsible for the needs of the game as a whole.
For plot requests that would utilize an NPC in combat, we ask that you fill out a spreadsheet for that NPC as located here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14Aiw9ttoQKq0DhrSTyxr4yDmwdgYk0TAsOMZ5ehmwhE/edit?usp=sharing
Furthermore, please indicate whether you will be running this combat yourself, if you have located a volunteer to do it for you, or if you are asking staff to do it. Keep in mind, staff are volunteers. While we would love to run every single combat request, we may not be able to, so it's wise to attempt to locate a player volunteer.
Rumors
As a subheading to requests, Active Rumors that don't significantly change the status quo of the grid, or addendums to the Player Rumormongers section of Rumormongers, don't require a whole plot request. A category of Request - Rumors - X is sufficient, as is just a line or two of what you want added to the wiki.
Keep in mind: if we feel there's unintended consequences to the Rumor, or that it does actually change the status quo of the grid, then we may send it back for clarification. If you think it would, then it's more appropriate for the Plots category and a full request.
Group
This request covers the formation of Player-Run Groups. On Velvet Room MUSH, forming one is very simple! You simply fill out the following:
- Name of Group: Please keep it short and reasonable.
- Ansi for Group Name:
- What Your Group is About?:
- Who's in the Group?:
- Who's Your Out-Of-Character Point of Contact?:
We request a minimum of three characters ICly, as played by three distinct people, to form them. Adding new people or removing people can typically be handled on the +ask staff channel in game. However, if staff isn't available, then a request for such is simple.
Grid
This request covers desiring edits to existing grid rooms, or addendum of rooms on the grid. These types of requests have a higher standard to meet, given that you're making changes to the structure of the game. That doesn't mean one should hesitate if you feel it would add something to the game or a group's narrative!
For requests of editing existing rooms, please fill this out:
- Which Room?
- What Do You Want To Edit?:
- Please Detail the Edits You Desire: For this, include a full room description, and any edits to exits you'd like to make.
For addendum of a new room, please fill this out:
- What Room?
- Where is It Connected? It must have a point of connection with the existing grid. New entire cities or wards are quite likely to be denied without good justification.
- Is This For a Group?:
- Why Do You Want It?:
- Please Detail The Room Description, The Exits, and Where The Exits Connect:
Again, grid requests have a high bar to meet, so do not be discouraged if we simply ask that you make do with the existing grid. This is not an insult to your ideas; we just need to make sure the grid only expands so much.
Theme
This request is primarily for content that is not already found on the wiki, or a request for clarification about existing theme. We reserve the right to keep certain parts of our theme secret for reveals.
If you have an idea for original content that isn't covered by existing theme, then please detail the following:
- What Character(s)?:
- Does It Utilize Existing Theme?:
- Please Give a Detailed Description of What You Want:
Reminder: the majority of such requests should be handled at application. This is primarily for ideas that come after the fact and weren't covered by your application, or something new you wish to exist.
The staff reserves the right to deny thematic requests that we feel do not fit the game. However, if it is something approved at application and you wish to expand it, then please contact us and we'll see what we can do.
Code
This is primarily for bug requests. However, if you have an idea for a new type of system, you are welcome to send in an idea under this category as well!
Keep in mind, our coder is a very talented volunteer, but not all suggestions are going to be accepted due to the sheer amount of work it might generate for them.
Conduct
This is a formalized system of requesting staff to look into another player's behavior.
Note: Staff will not accept anonymous complaints, nor complaints made on behalf of someone else who wishes to remain anonymous.
You must send this with an e-mail associated with the character bit of the person making this complaint.
Mind you, this is a category only to request investigation into flagrant violations of the rules. Please don't send this because you just don't like someone or what they're doing. It must be a good faith belief they have violated a conduct rule.
Misc
Miscellaneous requests are for requests that aren't covered in one of the above categories. Please be as detailed as you can so we can understand what your request is about.
