The Chat Marron is a butler cafe in in Akihabara. Started by Toki Murasaki, it is the second business the entrepreneur as created, the first being the Pretty Pixie, a popular maid cafe started in Sumaru City's Yumezaki Ward. Having moved on from the the maid cafe business, Toki means to make her new venture as successful as her last!
Menu
The cafe is all ages; no alcohol is served. The feel is vaguely Old World European, which is reflected in the decor and menu. The menu consists of sweet and savory pastries as well as desserts. Drinks mainly are tea, served in fine porcelain cups, as well as some fancy mixed drinks (again, nonalcoholic). The food quality is great, and reviews will mention the quality exceeds how varied the butlers can be in terms of quality.
Employment
Speaking of butlers, that is the theme of cafe! While a standard butler's uniform can be provided (done in the reddish brown and white themes of the cafe), workers are allowed to have their own, as long as it fits the theme (coughcough Toki can't afford to have every size on hand coughcough). Any sex/gender is allowed to be a butler, as originally, this was going to be a dansō (ie women crossdressing) cafe!
The cafe allows for part-timers; each can and are encouraged to come up with their own name and identity, which can be changed at any time. If a worker can't think of one, Toki will definitely help. If you take her up on it, it will likely be very extra, flowery, and full of things that Toki thinks sound fancy, including erroneous French words. Proceed at your own risk.
Customers can ask for whoever is on staff at the time, provided they are not busy already. The general policy is that customers are often referred to as 'ojou-sama', 'danna-sama', or 'bocchama'.
.... Eventually Toki will relent and have an occasional Maid day, but like with butlers, any sex/gender is allowed.

On Monday, April 27th, a new cafe opened in Akihabara, called Le Chat Marron. What makes it unique is what its owner has referred to as an 'Old World European' style, with fancy butlers to match. Riding the recent trend of danso (crossdressing) themed establishments, though, in an added twist, the butlers can be either male or female.
Noted restaurant entrepreneur Toki Murasaki managed to make waves in Sumaru City's Yumezaki Ward with the Pretty Pixie, a maid cafe that opened back in 2010. With its blue, white, and black theme, its elegant appeal attracted a wide client base of gothic lolita enthusiasts before being sold over to its current owner, former fashion model-turned-restaurateur Kako Honma.
"Maids are over for me," Murasaki said in a recent interview. "I'm looking for newer horizons. Everyone wants someone to serve them with a bit of elegance and refinement. With the Pretty Pixie I found myself caring more about the outfits than the actual menu, so here, I'm doing the opposite! Also, there are butlers. I think butlers are really mysterious and cool."
The menu shall serve a variety of tea cakes, pastries, and drinks, all non-alcoholic. Tea is the primary focus, much like with Pretty Pixie, but Murasaki hopes to push into new territory like with the 'Eau de Nil', a matcha-infused milk tea with boba pearls, and, later this spring, the 'Lucky Charlotte', a mixed fruity drink topped with fresh berries.
The cafe will join the likes of similar venues, such as Alice's Apron, but Murasaki isn't worried. "I don't think we serve the same clientele," she says, smiling.
Trivia
- There is a public secret rivalry with the dansō host club down the way. Since the rival host club is all women cosplaying as men, Toki thought that having both men and women butlers would provide an edge to her business. .... Toki also has a secret crush in the owner.
- Toki is Umie Akabane's former senpai and school pal. To this day, Umie is mystified how someone like her not only has a business degree, but somehow manages to have a decent business sense, despite her cloudcuckoolander nature.
