- Summary: After the events at the launch party with Taro Nakata, Hazuki has a weird dream. But... could it be something more?
It is another stressful night. Hazuki takes off her jacket, folding it neatly and leaving it on the chair. She changes into a sleep shirt, climbing into bed and flicking her phone on. The incident with Taro didn't go right, and now he hates her...
Doomscrolling through the internet on Sawdat, she tries to stay awake, not wanting to see what her nightmares have for her tonight. "Dangit..." she mutters in English, taking a long breath. After a bit of scrolling from politics to "Am I the asshole?" to "am i actually trans?" posts on her feed, stifling yawns all the while, she closes her eyes, letting her phone fall onto her chest.
She drifts on into darkness.
Falling, falling, falling into the void of sleep, until something cracks into her awareness. A deep baritone voice... and a sound.
"Welcome to my Velvet Room."
Hazuki awakens to the sound of a jet engine roaring overhead, the familiar sound of passenger planes flying past her. She is in a blue velvet airport terminal-lounge hybrid, turnstiles on either side of the room locked and trapping her in the room. A receptionist's desk, much fancier than usual, sits across from her comfortable chair, with a tall, lanky man manning it, his round head balding and his nose protruding almost like a fairy tale. He wears a black suit, and his bulging eyes should put Hazuki off more, but he doesn't feel hostile, especially with that wide grin.
Sitting on the side of the receptionist's desk is who could only be described as a teenage airline stewardess with an odd sense of fashion. Pale skin, medium-length white-grey hair, and a blue stewardess outfit with round golden accents, accented by a black scarf around her neck, and not possessing the stereotypical hat.
As her eyes adjust, the bizarre-looking man speaks. "Ahah... it seems we have a guest with quite a difficult destiny ahead of her..." He chuckles, causing Hazuki to sink further into her chair.
"My name is Igor... I am delighted to make your acquaintance." He nods, before turning a hand over to the stewardess. "This is Safie, another resident like myself."
"Oh, hi! I'm Safie, it's a pleasure!" The girl beams, excitably clapping her hands together.
Igor continues. "This place exists between dream and reality, mind and matter... It is a room that only those who are bound by a "contract" may enter... It may be that such a fate awaits you in the near future. Now then... Why don't you introduce yourself...?"
Hazuki swallows her fear, sitting up straight. This feels... important. "Hi... I'm Hazuki Nakao..."
Igor just continues that rictus grin, speaking again. "I see... I am sure you and Safie will get along swimmingly." A pause. "You seem to prize your connections with those around you most of all."
Hazuki brushes hair out of her eyes with one hand nervously, as Igor continues to stare like he's looking directly into her soul.
"In the coming days, you will enter into a "contract", after which you will return here. In the coming year... your destiny will come to a true turning point, and if you don't act on it successfully, you will likely not have another chance, the dissolution of humanity being all but certain. My duty is to provide assistance to our guests to ensure that does not happen."
Gaining the nerves to speak more, Hazuki reaches a hand out. "Wait, what does that mean? Contract? Destiny? Dissolution of humanity? What are you talking about...?"
Igor just smiles. "We shall attend to the details another time. Until then, farewell..."
"Bye! Rest well!" Safie calls out cheerfully with a wave, as another plane roars over head. The world spins, and spins, before fading to darkness.
In the morning, it will seem to all be a weird dream. But could that really be the end of it?
