"Good try, but nah."

Hazuki Nakao is a stranger in a semi-familiar land. Raised in Europe thanks to her businessman father, the sudden divorce of her parents catapulted her familiar life away and returned her to her childhood home in Tokyo. A lonely yet extroverted girl, she has no friends in Japan, barely squeezing her way into a nice preparatory academy in an attempt to win back her parents' affection, where she barely fits in due to a lack of cultural experience and familiarity. An overly friendly and once-honest gamer who now tries to say what she feels the other person wants to hear even if it makes her sound disingenuous, this makes her easier to manipulate than one might expect. She can be found frequenting arcades after school, where she is known as the Goddess of Tricks, an unbeatable player.

Background

Hazuki Nakao was born in Sumaru to Ryo and Akemi Nakao. Her father is a businessman for the Motojima Corporation, a family-owned video game and electronics corporation known worldwide. He was sent to their European Branch with his family when Hazuki was four, based out of London, England but often visiting other countries on vacation. She was decently wealthy, and never wanted for anything.

At eight years old, Hazuki realized she was truly a girl. Her parents were confused, at first shocked and worried, but after a long talk with some friends and doing their own research, made the decision to embrace their daughter - her father did a better job of this by far, her mother always unsure why 'this had to happen'. She changed her name lightly, often calling herself 'Ha-chan' when introducing herself to friends until she got older.

In school in London, Hazuki was a popular girl. Likable and friendly, she made a fair share of comrades and planned to spend the rest of her life there. She went to parties, hung out on rooftops, and overall was just a pretty cool yet fairly normal teenage girl. She was known for her blunt honesty and occasional naivety, but otherwise seen as a good friend.

Her relationship with her father was close when he wasn't busy, and they would often play video games together. Her mother was less close, but they loved each other all the same. Hazuki had a pretty good life.

And then Hazuki saw her father kissing his assistant when she went to surprise him with dinner during a late night at the office.

Hazuki was conflicted with this knowledge, and with a teenager's judgment, told her mother. Her mother responded by calling for a divorce, and soon, the two were splitting. It was acrimonious with quite a bit of arguing, and both parents held resentment towards Hazuki, even if they loved her. They made the decision that, during the procedures, they'd send her to Japan to live with her grandmother, her father's mother, in Shibuya.

It was a new beginning.

She recently arrived in Shibuya before the school year started, where she pushed hard to get into Shujin Academy. She never quite cared about school in the past, but she felt that if she showed she was still the girl they always knew, capable of anything, her parents would love her again. She got in right over the line, but they barely acknowledged it...

...she just must work harder.

Persona

Janus: Janus is the two-faced Roman god of beginnings, passages, time, and change. He is unique to the Roman mythology, having no counterpart in the Greek mythology, serving as a liminal god.

Janus is an androgynous Shadowy figure clad in a gold raiment covered in tiny doorframes, with it possessing two faces on either side of its head, bearing a crown of thorns and a different expression with two beaded eyes on each face, one melancholy and one joyful. It holds a clock hand in each palm as if it was a blade.

Hazuki is a two-faced person. She wears one mask on the inside, one on the outside, never revealing her true self even as she tells you what she believes you want to hear, which is likely to be obvious she's doing so. She's at a new beginning in her life, one marked by great change and crossing boundaries. Her story is one of duality, hanging on to toxic nostalgia of the 'past', and trying to look toward a better future.

Special Skills

Hazuki is a gamer who possesses the skills to rival many pros at fighting game competitions, and is talented at other genres as well. She is known as the Goddess of Tricks, an unbeatable player who often sandbags if you've never heard of her. She focuses on zoning-type characters, but can play any archetype if given time to lab. Her main in the Night Parade series of fighting games is Yuki-Offa, an ice-themed yokai who fires blasts of ice from afar to range out her enemies, and is one of the central characters of the marketing for the franchise.

Hazuki is also good at traditional games such as TCGs. In general, she's pretty good at any game that requires more skill than luck, if she has time to practice and learn how to play, depending on what exactly it is.

Hazuki used to dance in school, enjoying it. She also writes fantasy stories in her notebooks, often of the people around her, a better more magical world inspired by what she would like to happen.
