Tuesday, September 18th. Beniho Igarashi has been awake for a few hours already; there's been time for her to see her parents, as well as the police. The story thus far is that her mind is under a lot of stress, because what she's saying doesn't entirely make sense...
But it makes sense to the right people. Those who know wht happened.
Now it's after school, and Beniho is still in bed. There's no guard on her door, though the doctors and nurses will be enforcing visiting hours. She's expected to be able to return to school soon...
But not yet.
Just now, Beniho is looking out the window in her room at Tatsumi Memorial Hospital. It's a lovely room; rich colors, a television, a bed where she's hooked up to various machines...
And she's quiet.

It's perhaps not so surprising when Yukari Takeba shows up that Tuesday. In fact, she has a great excuse for the nurses when it comes to non-family visiting.
"Hey there. This is Igarashi-chan's room right? I'm Yukari Takeba, we're both in Archery Club together. Her teacher asked me to drop off some handouts for all the schoolwork she's missed."
It's an accepted excuse, nearly anywhere for someone to do that when visiting someone ill. And so, she's allowed in.
Hospital doors are rarely fully closed, in part because the nurse's like to have the ability to take a 'quick look' on a patient when they're not on monitoring equipment.
Which means she gets a glimpse of her quietly staring out the window. She watches for perhaps a full minute or so, trying to get a sense of what's going on with her, before tapping on the door frame.
"Hey there." She smiles, "I heard that you were recovering here, so I wanted to come by and check on you... you had us all worried there when you just disappeared like that."
She says, before clarifying in a half-truth, "All of us in Archery Club, that is. Are you alright for company right now?"

While Yukari watches, Beniho keeps staring for the few ten seconds or so--and then looks down. She doesn't see Yukari at first, but Yukari can see her; her eyes are alert. She picks up the remote--but then she sees...
"Takeba-chan?" Beniho asks. She smiles back, though it's a little wan. "I'm sorry," she says. "I really didn't mean to worry everyone." Of course she takes it on herself; she's like that. Her long, brown hair is down at the moment; her brown eyes are... not sad, but thoughtful. Until Yukari mentions company, and she brightens. "I'd like that," she says. Then she bites her lip; there's something she wants to say.

"Hey no. We're definitely not saying it's your fault or anything." Yukari says with a thin smile, "Like, we're allowed to worry over our clubmate right?
However, she is glad to have company, "Well then, I'm coming in."
So she steps inside, and puts her bag down on a chair, scooting up another beside the bed.
"How are you doing? You know... you're getting that look again." Yukari says with a smile, "You know, the one you always have when you want to talk about something."

"That's true," Beniho allows, and seems to be a little mollified about it. When Yukari comes in, Beniho turns to her; the TV is forgotten, put on mute again. Instead, ,she looks at Yukari.
"I'm..." She was going to say she was OK, but she thought slightly better of it. "I'm a little out of it," she admits. "I still feel kind of dizzy... They tell me it might've been carbon monoxide...?" But I don't know."
She can't quite laugh, even though Yukari knows her well. "I do," she admits. "I wanted... to thank you."
"You were there," she says. "I... I remember that much."

"Carbon Monoxide... Oh! I see. Yeah don't worry, I hear people recover from that really quickly."
She says, like trying to help her feel better, knowing she must feel like hell right now.
But...
"Thank me?" She blinks, looking startled, then, "Ohhhh... you remember that. Alright. I... wasn't going to say really, I didn't want to dredge up any bad memories." She blushes slightly, as if embarrassed, "But yeah. We did find you in kind of an awful situation."

"Oh, good," Beniho says, relieved. "They didn't believe me about the things I saw. I was worried they would think the wrong thing..."
Yukari looks startled, but Beniho looks more intent. "So it was real," she confirms. "I didn't imagine it."
"...Thanks," she says. "I'm still kind of scared..." Beniho shakes her head. "But you were there. When Reiya-kun came for me." She hesitates. "...Even after I dumped him, he still wanted to save me..."
"And the others. I can't remember most of their faces, but could you thank your friends for me? I know there were... monsters, but... I can't quite remember the rest."
"I heard this voice," she explains. "At school. and then everything goes fuzzy..."

"Welllll..." She drawls, without actually committing to a yes, or no. Instead letting Beniho speak.
"Hey you're safe now. And... yeah, he did. In fact he kinda... led the whole effort to find you, in a sense."
As she awkwardly gets that out, yet it is still sincere.
"Sure, I can do that... Hmm." She furrows her brow, "So you saw monsters." In that non-committal sort of way, like 'I'm not saying they were monsters, I'm also not saying what they were at all. But I believe you saw monsters.'
"... I see. What'd the voice say to you... if you don't mind telling me?"

"Right," Beniho says. "I'm safe..." She bites her lip, when Yukari says Reiya led the effort, hard. She's clearly having a very emotional reaction to that idea, before she pushes it down and focuses.
"Mm-hm," she says. "I know it sounds crazy, but... Well, my parents think I imagined it, that the gas got to me. Or that I had a dream while I was out of it."
But what did the voice say? "Oh, um..."
"Something like... how I had to know my place. How I had to go where I belonged. I didn't understnd... but my legs felt like they were moving on their own. I can't remember much else."

"You are." Yukari adds, insistently before...
"... Well they weren't there. It's understandable they'd think that. But... yeah."
Then she says what the Voices said, and Yukari struggles with that one for a bit, before...
"... Before you heard the voices... what kind of day were you having? What were you... feeling, if you remember?"

"Mm."
Beniho looks even smaller than usual in her hospital bed; 150cm, not even five feet tall, she's stronger than she looks... but right now she doesn't look that strong. "Yeah... the police want to know where I was, but... I don't remember."
Yukari though, asks what kind of day she was having. "What kind of day...?" She blinks, surprised "I, um..."
"I do remember. I was feeling..."
She sighs. "I'd had a fight with my mom. She just... doesn't understand me. And we didn't even have club that day, so I was just going to go home and be in that big house and..."
She sighs. "It was so lonely. I felt like..."
She dips her head in shame. "It felt I was a burden to her. like it would be better if I weren't around at all..."
"U-um, not that I really think that way! I was just--I was feeling bad, was all."

"... Well I think it's best not to push yourself to remember everything." Yukari suggests, "It was obviously really hard on you. And you know what's important about it, right?"
Beniho does talk about it, and Yukari gets something of a sour expression at the idea that it was Mom triggered, but it becomes more pensive...
Then, she nods.
"Well. Let's say you're ever feeling like that again. You have my number right? Just drop me a line and we'll see if I can't cheer you up some."
Or if she can't, then - she'll have Reiya at least go watch out for her as much as that galls her a little to get her Ex to spy on her.
It's still better than the alternative.

"Mm. Okay." Beniho nods. "...I kind of don't want to remember all of it," she admits. "It was frightening..."
"But I remember. You, and him, and your friends... you saved me. That's what matters."
"Really?" Beniho wonders. "You'd be OK with me talking about things like that...?" She seems kind of surprised. She gets along well with Yukari, but getting close with stuff like that just isn't something she expects from her teammate. Even though they did talk a lot about Reiya.
"...Okay," she says.
"So... did I miss a lot?" she wonders. "I was gone for a couple of days, right?"
What she hasn't asked about is how monsters exist, and if she's still safe. Maybe she jusst feels she can rely on them?

"Then, there's no need to. I promise nothing weird happened."
Look there's a reason why you need to reassure a girl for gaps in memory, and she's definitely doing that.
It is touching to be remembered, to kind of get credit in a sense, but... she kind of also doesn't want to if it means Beniho learning even more.
"Yeah. I mean why not? Everyone needs someone to vent to, right?"
It's worth it at least, if it means preventing worse from happening to her. She'd never be able to live with herself if she had the chance to stop it and - didn't.
"Not much. Just some class stuff. I actually brought your handouts and homework over. Though the teachers said it's not like it has to be in immediately or anything."
They're more understanding given the whole 'missing' thing.
Yukari isn't going to confirm monsters exist either. It's better she not know anymore than she has to.

"...Thanks." Nothing 'weird'. "That's a relief." Beniho had thought about it.
"Then, thanks..." Everyone does need that. She doesn't feel she can make the same offer to Yukari, but even so, "I'll remember."
Pasue. "Oh, thanks. That'll give me something to do, anyway. They want to keep me for obsservation for a while. Something about a sleep study...?" It's probably observing her in the Dark Hour. That's what they do, after all.
Wouldn't it be nice to have another girl your age on the team, Yukari?
"Do you mind staying for a while? It's kind of lonely here."

"Yeah no problem."
Before she says she'll remember, which is a relief. "Great. That's all I ask." And she'll remember to program Beniho's ring tone to be a little more urgent than the others just in case.
"Ohhhh yeah, huh. It makes sense I guess after what you went through."
She's worried that... well.
Sure it'd be nice, but the last thing she wants is to do that to anyone else. It's... losing one's innocence prematurely, in a way.
You trade it for power, and it's not an even trade.
"Not at all. It's what I came for right? We can talk and you know, maybe even do some homework together..."
She'll stay until the Nurses force her to leave, at least.
