- Summary: Yua arrives at Ebisu Beach before Eikichi's concert... only to find Ichika pulling up, too! The two have a short conversation before they head down. Yua's looked up some youth slang for this event -- but she's able to teach Ichika some new words, too!
<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.
Yua had a party to go to yesterday... but today, Yua wants to go to a party.
It's not one of Kimitake's, you see, with his Very Important People who all assuredly have blood on their hands, directly or indirectly. This... is a concert held by one of her students. She wants to support him...!!
And lo, let us witness the woman who steps out into the parking lot near Ebisu Beach:
She does not wear a ballerina's leotard.
She is wearing a denim skirt, layered over itself at the side of her leg, which falls a few inches below her knees. She's wearing hiking boots! (And those compression socks...) And her top is a V-necked armless purple blouse, which really avoids being designated as a tank top from how froofy the straps are.
She's also wearing... a spiked collar, plus bracelets with the same design. Look closely, and the studs are real silver. Her hair, rather than being folded up and up and up into a bun, falls in a long braid behind her, revealing to the world that her hair is so long as to fall down to the middle of her back! And that's plus two more braids to either side of her face, the hair pulled into a hime frame...
Why, her lipstick is even blue.
Yua isn't just a lame chaperone... she's a COOL chaperone!!!
Though... is it really punk to be helped out of the back of her Mercer-Benz by her chauffeur...? Or to have such an expensive bag... or real silver studs, man...
<Pose Tracker> Ichika Kawase has posed.
Ichika's boots are a terrifying thing. Though they aren't heeled or platformed, they have shiny buckles and spikes, aside from being glossy black. They are just about up to her knee, which leaves plenty of skin between the top of her boots and the bottom of her short gray skirt. Her top is mesh, with solid fabric underneath to cover most of her chest but not her midriff, with heavy cleavage and spiked bracelets at the wrists. The pattern on her top below the mesh is that of a rose on a black background. And, of course, she has black lipstick and heavy, dramatic eyeshadow and liner.
On top of that, she's still 5'7" at baseline. Ichika stands out. And yet...
And yet she may not stand out as much as the woman who gets out of a Mercer-Benz in that outfit.
Ichika, in her black van, spots Yua stepping out and lifts an eyebrow before she gets out a few spaces away.
"Hey sensei," Ichika greets, locking up her black vehicle. "You uh..."
"You look great."
Pause. "Wait, is that real silver?"
And her hair's so long! ...As long as ichika's used to be, even.
<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.
Ichika is very fierce and very big, and Yua, a full five years older than her, has to look seven inches up to meet her gaze.
You know. Five years older, but still five foot even...
"Thank you, Seiji-san," Yua can be heard, squeezing the man's hand, for a moment. "I'll be all right." And so, she starts off to make her way to the beach --
-- to find Ichika locking up her van! "Oh! Is this your van?" Yua asks, clapping her hands together. "It's beautiful!" It's no Mercer-Benz, but what kind of teenager has Mercer-Benz money, anyway?
(Well... Yua has no expectation that a teenager ought to have that kind of money.)
She giggles, lifting a hand to her lips. "Do you think I will blend in?" She asks, merrily. "I looked up punk outfits, and had our stylist design something for me! `Très chic!`" Th--that wasn't English... wait, she has a stylist!? "Mm, mm, it is real silver! Though, goodness, I don't know if I can wear these to most other functions... a dozen women would faint on the spot!"
She fans her hands out, looking to Ichika. "You look positively marvellous!" She adds, beaming with positivity. "Very fierce! Will your gang be 'moshing' today? Is that something you do for 'cred'?" Yua pauses, for a moment.
"I looked the lingo up online," she adds, conspiratorially. "I won't be caught out for a minute!"
That explains a few things...
<Pose Tracker> Ichika Kawase has posed.
"Thanks," Ichika says of her van. "I thought I could drive people home if it gets too late. ...Technically it's--" She almost names her father, but thinks better of it, "Well, I can't own it in my name yet."
Of course she has a stylish. "Tray... Sheet?" Ichika wonders, and tilts her head to the side. "But uh. I mean, kind of...?"
A dozen women fainting. The taller of the two laughs at that. "OK, I'd almost pay to see that."
Positivity!
"Thanks," Ichika says of the look too, and turns slightly to the side, and then the other side, to give Yua a better look. "But--"
Moshing. Cred. Ichika's sweatdrop is almost visible.
"Prrrobably not," Ichika answers. "I don't want people getting handsy. Well, the wrong people, anyway."
"...It's uh..."
"It's not really necessary to..."
Pause. "People don't worry too much about what you say at a concert. It's more the vibe. You know?"
<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.
"That's very responsible of you!" Yua clearly approves. "Besides, many things are technically one thing, but in reality a very different thing."
"Trrrès," Yua sounds out the word, a touch overemphatic, "chiiic. Très as in 'very', chic as in 'elegant' or 'stylish' or 'fancy'... it's French!" oh no. ichika just got tricked into LEARNING SOMETHING. How could this happen?! She was just talking to a teacher for FIVE MINUTES!
She smiles, rubbing at the silver studs at her wrist. "Perhaps one day...! It would be very funny! Though..." Her husband wouldn't appreciate the joke, she realises, her smile dimming for a moment before she focuses back in on Ichika. "I'd best not."
Ichika shows off, though, and Yua claps! But then --
"Huh? Did I say something weird?" Yua blinks that big eye of hers, confuzzled. (How is a grown adult confuzzled? Yua pulls it off.)
"Oh, though I did hear that moshing is a style of dancing that is rather full-contact... I've been strictly informed I'm not to do so!" Yua doesn't mind being told; it's for the safety of the baby. "There weren't all that many of these back home when I was growing up... we'd dance at festivals, instead. And celebrations! There were a great many celebrations! But concerts at an abandoned shrine...? I will have to make a little apology to your Gods, stepping in, but perhaps they're just glad humans have come back..."
Yua trails off, lost in thoughtfulness, for a moment, before she looks back to Ichika. "But -- oh! The vibe, right? Well, I'm afraid us meddling adults will be throwing that askew regardless," Yua smiles, goodnaturedly. "But we'll try to work with it!"
<Pose Tracker> Ichika Kawase has posed.
"I guess that's true," Ichika considers. And then, "Uh, thanks. It's kind of an excuse to drive, though..." It's not like she'll be drinking. Not that she'd say so to a teacher anyway.
But Yua sounds it out, and explains... French! "Ohhh." Ichika nods thoughtfully. "French..."
She considers all the things she knows about French. "That's the really sexy language, right? I guess it makes sense that you'd know it."
Is that supposed to mean something???
But while it would be funny... "Hmm. Well, sometimes things that are funny aren't that good to do..."
Clap!!
"Not exactly." Something weird. "But it's sort of surprising to hear that kind of language out of someone your age..."
Dancing though! "Pretty much," Ichika agrees about moshing. "You definitely shouldn't--if I felt like getting into it, I might. It can be fun to let loose. ...But they aren't always used to girls, and sometimes it's just an excuse to get felt up instead," she grimaces. "
"I'm sure the gods don't mind you showing up, even if they're not yours. The dancing sounds nice, though. I could go for more of that."
But Yua is thoughtful. "Heheh. Yeah, I guess you will. But you're gonna be like, stealth about it. You definitely look the part, even with the real silver."
<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.
"It's a good excuse," Yua says. "After a party like this, it can be hard for you guys to get home sometimes, right?" Well, that's how it is if you substitute 'party' for 'terrorising assault'... not that Yua ever has trouble getting home after she commits one of those.
She has a chauffeur.
"It really is called a 'Romance language'!" Yua giggles, hearing Ichika call it the sexy one. "You're right, it has quite the reputation... but I know it because I'm trained in ballet!" Is that supposed to mean something? Then it's a good thing Yua can clarify the situation!
"That's right," Yua confirms, when Ichika realises that funny things aren't necessarily good things. She doesn't share her thoughts about her husband, because, well -- five years younger. Ichika only thinks she's all grown up, as far as Yua's concerned.
But -- "Huh? Someone my age?" Yua's eye widens, in alarm. "Kawase-kun! I, I'm really not that old!!" But if she's not that old, does that just mean she's that out of touch...?!
Apparently.
Ichika shares her concerns about moshing, though. "If any boy tries to do that, come find me!" Yua insists, scowling, her hands on her hips. "I'll make sure he regrets his violation! That's not acceptable at all!!" What's she going to do, fuss him to death...?
... wait, no, she's married to a cop.
Oh no.
She smiles again, though, when Ichika assures her that her Gods are chill with it actually. "Good! And festival dances are a lot of fun... maybe I should teach you guys some! I thought young people would want to do modern dancing, but there's really nothing wrong with tradition...!"
A hand to her cheek, she smiles, and adds, on the heels of Ichika chuckling: "I'm very sneaky! No one can find me out!"
Even if that's secretly kind of a sad thing to say, it sounds so cute...
<Pose Tracker> Ichika Kawase has posed.
"That's true," Ichika agrees. "And the cops hassle you if you're out too late... But if I'm just taking people home, it's less likely to be a big deal."
Ichika would never expect Yua to do terrorisms.
"Oh, yeah? See?" Ichika takes this as proof. "Ohhh, ballet. Yeah, that makes sense." But Ichika knows.
Despite herself, she laughs at that alarm. "You're not that old," she agrees, "But you're not a teenager, either. Or maybe it just doesn't suit your image..."
"Thanks," Ichika says, "But I can handle it." She curls her hand into a fist. "No problem. I know how to handle boys who get pushy."
But Ichika smiles back. "Besides, it's just at the shrine, not like... all up in the shrine's business," she isn't sure how to say it any other way. "We're not doing anything taboo about that or whatever."
"Hmm. I'd be OK learning your dances," Ichika says. "Like, going to parties and stuff it's different, that's more about... vibing with someone. A dance for a festival sounds fun, too."
But--sneaky!!!
"Heh. Sure, sensei. You're super sneaky."
<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.
"The police do want to be reasonable," and if that sounds kind kind of a canned response, particularly after how Ichika saw her dealing with the officer who wanted to detain her, it might well be because her husband is a cop. "I'm sure you'll be fine, Kawase-kun!"
Yua is too cute to instill terror in innocent people. Especially Unawakened innocent people. Luckily, she manages to explain away how she knows the sexy language, too--!
(No one tell her.)
"I guess it really isn't my image... I grew up in the country, and then I had to learn rich people parties! There wasn't much room for concerts between those..." What did Yua get up to as a teenager, then?! ... obviously, she went to the theatre and ballet with her rich friends. They were super normal. It's fine.
Still, Ichika insists that she knows how to (man)handle boys who get pushy, and Yua taps a finger to her lips. "As a teacher, I shouldn't encourage you to use violence... so I won't!" And yet, she's not encouraging her to talk about her feelings, or do anything else, really... wait, why is she holding her finger up in the universal 'shh' gesture?
(Because she wishes she could have been so forceful, back then, and she knows that Ichika wasn't always forceful either.)
"Oh, that's a relief!" Yua exclaims, when Ichika assures her they won't get up in the shrine's business. "That's a God's house, you know!" Not her God's house, but a God's house. Apparently, that's important to her...
"Hee hee," she giggles, though, hearing Ichika talk about vibing. "Festival dances in Okinawa are actually a lot like that, too! It's all about connecting with each other and celebrating! It's much more laid back than on the mainland."
And she giggles again, hearing Ichika declare her super sneaky. "Then I had better sneak sneak over to the shrine! I hope we're not too early...!" Luckily, they're a normal amount of on time; surely Ichika, at least, knows how to time these things.
<Pose Tracker> Ichika Kawase has posed.
It totally sounds like a canned response, but Ichika isn't going to insist that a teacher be on board with down with the man. "Yeah."
Ichika has knowledge of many things.
"That's cool though," Ichika says. "It gives you some understanding that city people don't have." Pause. "Well, I guess most people would say that it makes you different," she says, as if being different is itself bad, "But I think different experiences can be a good thing." Rich people parties! "...Yeah," she says, "It's not like our family is poor or whatever, but we don't do that stuff like your wedding." She tilts her head. "It makes me imagine you as a teenager, though..."
But still. She shouldn't encourage it, and Ichika smiles. "Don't worry. I will totally remember that I should be peaceful and nice."
But a relief! "Yeah. I don't think the Death Boss would do that kind of thing. ...Like... Shrines are important, you know...?" Ichika at least is a little more religious than most. For reasons.
"Oh, yeah?" Ichika asks. "Cool. Laid back sounds kinda nice... but I'm not sure I could get used to it."
A laugh then. "Yeah, sure. I gotta meet some people, so I'm gonna go check for where they are, but it should be fun. We're totally around the right time."
<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.
Being different, being fair, is bad on the mainland, which is why Yua is surprised to hear Ichika say otherwise. (Well, less surprised than she could have been; it doesn't take a mainlander to realise that Ichika must run afoul of being different, too.) "I think so, too!" She smiles, to her. "Back home, we're yasashii... we don't really like to put people in a box, and we're not big on pushy ambition or people who think they're in charge of it all. It's that yasashii energy which keeps us from having bad hearts!"
And what does that say about the men pulling her strings, hearts full of ambition...?
Anyway.
She giggles, though, as Ichika imagines her as a teenager. "Let's just say I wasn't very sneaky back then," she suggests, and it's at least funny to her.
Yua is very sneaky about tacitly approving Ichika protecting herself, though. "Good!"
But she nods, tapping a finger to her chin, when Ichika speaks of the hero of the hour. "That's right! Mishina-kun is a fine young man, he wouldn't disrespect God's house that way."
She smiles, as she adds: "You should visit sometime! Everyone's always happy to see visitors... and you might like being tege-tege yasa more than you'd expect!" A light pause, and she adds, because it's a specifically Okinawan turn of phrase: "That's a phrase which means that something isn't bad, and it isn't good, and that's okay." Who knew such an accepting place was right beside Japan...?
"But of course, I won't get in the way of your meetings!" Yua adds, bubbly. (Strangely enough, Ichika's partner never seems to show up when she's in the area. They're too scared of getting dragged to truancy dance class...) "I hope you have a lot of fun, Kawase-kun!"
With that, Yua waves to her, and sets off down the beach to the abandoned shrine.
Moouuuu... she wishes she could take her shoes off and just stick her feet in the sand... but she needs to have firm footing!
