Early in the morning of the 28th, a crazed fan of Miho Ijuuin broke into Pyramid Plaza, the combined commercial/residential tower where she lives. There, he attacked the Olympic gold medallist and her pregnant cousin in law, Yua Ijuuin, who was staying with her for the night. Both Ijuuins were hospitalised overnight with minor injuries, and the assailant is believed to still be at large.
Yua Ijuuin's husband, Inspector Kimitake Ijuuin, assured the media that the police would find his wife and cousin's assailant, and assured the public that Aoba was still a very safe neighbourhood, whilst naming tight policing budgets as a limiting factor for his fellow officers.
Miho Ijuuin previously faced another assault from a fan which left her with an injured arm, though she informed the press she would return to her training as soon as she was well.
