  • OOC Date: 2026-07-28
  • IC Date: Sun Dec 16 2012
  • Summary: Miho is used to anticipating her home wife's needs, when she needs care -- and she was the security expert who supplied Yua with those concealed recording devices to begin with. She notices some previously deleted files, but it might have just been Yua testing things out, after all. She's able to help Yua eat a little breakfast... though Yua can't keep it down, when she shares her feelings about her rape with Miho, after she finishes her vain attempt. Beyond her despair, though, is a developing sense of her own autonomy -- striking back at Natari in ways she can't expect -- and an enduring and shared desire to rescue Tyrrha, even now knowing she's a trapped demon. She and Miho discuss how they might help her... and underline just why their own orderly existences agree with the fey rules of demon life, in a way which just might help them reach across the aisle.

Yua went straight home, after they visited the laboratories... and claimed it was that specific design of kimono Natari had insisted she escort Tyrrha while wearing.

She does not expect Miho will miss the way her obi's tied in front, either.

Once Tyrrha's situated and reassured regarding her own worries for Yua -- they leave her with Eiko, who, thankfully, has been quite happy to add babysitting to her list of duties -- Miho escorts Yua off to the hospital, again, and they class her as a repeat presentation and they ask all sorts of terrible questions...

And Yua just wants to go home. ... she gets the rape kit done anyway, though.

Like the recording on her comb, it's another angle of evidence, and even if someone is protecting Natari now -- the Order is constantly rearranging itself in its rule by power.

        ...

Yua doesn't make breakfast on Sunday morning, because she slept in terribly long -- long enough for Miho to review those materials, and for Tyrrha to help ('help') Eiko make some nice fried sham and eggs for Miho to bring in for Yua, when she's done.

As Yua picks at them, on the bed, still in her nightgown, she says: "... well... they won't need my classes during finals week, anyway."

Yua smooshes some toast into her eggs, and nibbles at it.

"... I'll go back to work when the semester starts back up... in a few weeks."

And she does not say that Kimitake warned her not to spend too long feeling sorry for herself, this time.

<Pose Tracker> Miho Ijuuin has posed.

Miho did not miss it; the way her off-hand curled into a fist, she clearly didn't miss it. But she kept it out of her face, and was as supportive to Yua as she could be. Off to the hospital...

Miho is glad Yua is willing to have the procedure done, but still somewhat surprised. ...It shows a resolution on her part that befits whta she's trying to do; Miho will not countermand it.

Instead, that morning she still wakes up early, reviews the materials she's been presented, and then get out for breakfast. She doesn't immediately launch into what she saw. Instead, she watches Yua. "They won't," she agrees. "Most such activities will be suspended as they were in our day, anyway."

But back to work...

"All right," Miho says. "I think that sounds reasonable."

<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.

Yua saw the anger which dug Miho's short nails into her palm, with the paradoxical guilt twisting in her gut...

... but Yua wasn't the only one who saw it.

Tyrrha can tell something's not quite right with Yua, and she can guess from that gesture how Miho's burying her own rage. ... and so the girl assured her nobler mother that Miho didn't have to hit Yua, for some reason, though Yua's desperately-edged reassurance that everything was fine thankfully stopped her from saying just why that's where her mind went first.

(Isn't it normal? Tyrrha thinks, in the way children do.)

Yua, at least, knows there is a gulf of difference between her husband and her wife; she can no sooner fault Miho for her rage than she can condemn herself for imagining the colour of Natari's blood, laid down.

... she asked Miho, after it happened the first time, to secure her some concealed recording devices; it's thanks to the security consultant who loves her so that she has that clever little comb, a microphone hidden in its decorations. She didn't want to simply let it happen, even then... so maybe it was inevitable that she'd push Natari, given the need.

(It's thanks to her expertise that Miho will note that data has been copied and cleared from the device before this excursion... but perhaps Yua was just testing it?)

"Suspended... I feel that way, too," she says, quietly. "Like... the whole of me was frozen, and... everything's moving, out there, but I don't know why."

<Pose Tracker> Miho Ijuuin has posed.

Miho was startled by that assurance. It was more than enough to break her out of her own emotions; it made her frown in thought. But it must just be the way Tyrrha is; violence is in her nature. Is that enough to explain it?

Regardless, Miho does not act on that rage. Instead...

She considers those devices, the ones that Yua bought and brought back. Miho does notice that the data was copied and cleared. She wonders about that, but indeed perhaps it was just a test. Now--

"...I know," she says. "I know that feeling. When you're 'away', and everything is still moving, but it's strange, because you aren't, and you're not sure why anything else is at all."

"I don't have the same experiences that you do... but I know some of that feeling."

She pauses. "Do you want to talk about it? Or do you want to talk about what you've found?"

"...Whatever you need, Yua."

<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.

Tyrrha is a violent kind of girl, and that data clarifies just why, though the official documentation redacts every indication of the truth.

... Yua is not so apt with her redactions, but Miho has at least taught her enough so she knows how to delete a file properly instead of leaving it in recycling, even if she doesn't know how to cover her digital steps entirely.

"Mm," she hums, poking at her breakfast. "Just like that... like... sham and toast should be yummy, right? But, I don't..."

Tears well in her eye, as she contemplates her breakfast, hen-pecked until it's gone cold. "Mmn," she hums, handing the plate back to Miho. "I'm not hungry..."

She's barely even eaten half of it; she'll need to have one of those meal replacement drinks, if she's tolerating food this poorly.

... but that's something Miho keeps in easy access, these days, even now they've managed to find a medication regime that lets Yua keep food down a little easier.

(The nausea and what follows it never really stopped... she just adapted to it.)

Yua leans against Miho, instead. "Mm," she hums, first, reaching across her to hug herself to her. "Even though you scrubbed me clean," a thing she at least managed to put off to after that rape kit was completed, this time, "... I still feel dirty."

She looks down. "... I hate how she's gentle with me," she says, "because she doesn't want to hurt my baby. I hate... that she's hurting me so much, and... and she still has standards. She's an utter brute, but... but she still thinks something... normal? She... she talks to me like... like it's normal, like... like I'd ever want it."

... and wonders if even the little breakfast she's eaten will stay down. "But it's worse than that, Mimi... I... it was easier to talk to her, like that. Well, it didn't even really feel like me, in my body, but... when we were talking... I wasn't just letting her do it. It was... normal, and... and I tricked her, too. She doesn't even know how I hurt her..."

<Pose Tracker> Miho Ijuuin has posed.

Miho does her best. A demon, though... It explains so much.

"That's all right," Miho says, taking the plate and setting it on a side table. "You don't have to eat it." There will have to be a drink, but that doesn't have to be right now, either. ...Miho has adapted as best she could to anticipating those needs.

But clean and dirty...

"It's because what she did to you hurts more than just your body," Miho offers. "I cannot scrub your spirit. ...But know that I will never think of you as 'dirty'."

A pause. She hates it...

"I see."

Of course she does; people in general justify the things they do. But it wouldn't help to speak of what 'people do' right now.

"It's good that you tricked her," Miho says, resolute. "It's good that you were able to hurt her without her knowing yet. Because she deserves to be hurt, for what she's done to you. For what she will yet do to you--and likely others."

"Remember. You are operating in the dark, because your hands are tied in the light. ...But it is 'justice' all the same, to return to her her hurts."

"You should not be in this position. But you are, and you are doing the best you can within it."

When Miho tells her to drink, Yua will, at least, drink, though she might warble a sad 'moooouuuu'...

"She targeted me," Yua says, miserably, "because the women of our family are close to the Gods." She worries about Yume, too, though she's too alienated from her to realise that Yume worries about Yume just the same...

But there are few people alive who think of themselves as 'bad people.'

Natari, describing herself, says she is a healer.

Miho says that it's good, though, and Yua nods, head sinking against her shoulder as she turns her body to tuck herself tighter in against her. "... it's not just me," she says, quietly. "The first time, she said... I made her realise how many women are sick. She's... hurt other women, too."

With a derisive snort, she adds: "... but she has a scar over her chest. Apparently, she tried it on a Succubus she was detaining... and learned the hard way not to do that to a Demon." Yua pauses. "I wish she'd eaten her," she grumbles, with uncharacteristic malice.

Tragically, that Succubus probably blew up, one way or another, if Natari's accounts are to believed.

... Yua will remember her sacrifice.

"She was... much happier I wasn't making a mess," Yua says, and looks a touch ill just relating it. "She supposed I'd gotten used to it... she was so sure she could do anything." Her fingers fist, in Miho's clothes, as her grip tightens and trembles. "She was happy I was -- learning."

'You can be taught' is how she said it, with the arrogance of a woman training a stubborn animal; Miho will have heard that.

"So I just flattered her a little, and..."

Yua glowers, at a point around Miho's hip, scowling deeply.

"... they really think I'm not worth thinking of at all."

<Pose Tracker> Miho Ijuuin has posed.

Mouu...

"I see..." Because of that. "The need to taint something holy... I do not understand it."

She shakes her head. But, Yua is sure... it's not just her. "...All the more reason to stop her," Miho says. "If I had those women's names, I would fight for them, too. But I have only yours, and you matter most to me. So I will fight for you."

A pause. A scar... Miho does not smile, but her expression is no less grim for it. "Good for the demon."

But... happier. "I see. Then, we will continue to use her lack of judgement. ...Her 'happiness' will be short-lived. You will find an answer."

Miho has heard it. And still...

"They think that," Miho agrees. "...and they will one day suffer for that."

<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.

"It... it's because... Tykko's from Okinawa, so... um..." But remembering that conversation, all Yua can remember is her tone, indulgent and distracted and fascinated in all the worst ways.

"Mm," Yua nods, looking a touch queasy.

... Natari did make reference to one woman who just won't settle, when she was remarking on Yua's compliance.

Perhaps it's nothing... or, for the keenly perceptive, perhaps someone's tangled up in the courts trying to prove Natari's menace.

But finding names in that instance is no small matter.

"Mm-hm," Yua nods, in turn, when Miho frames her as using Natari. And it is at least something, to think she is striking back in turn, but --

Yua's gone quite quiet, and --

        "Nnk --"

Luckily, Miho has adapted very well to anticipating Yua's needs, so she can fetch a sick bag from the side-table to hand over to her before she makes a mess of the bed.

So she didn't succeed at eating breakfast at all, huh...?

At the end of it Yua weeps, and for all for efforts she is still so ashamed, even purging those poisons from inside her.

<Pose Tracker> Miho Ijuuin has posed.

"I see," Miho says.

She notes the queasy look. And, well... Miho is that perceptive; she reflects on the matter. But the courts will not do what they need, she is sure of that much. Not even with the lawyers and money that she could bring to bear.

Still--

Nnk--

Miho has a sick-bag for Yua before she even needs it, and when Yua weeps, Miho holds her.

"...Yua," she murmurs.

<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.

Yua hands the bag over, shakily, to be tucked away in some handy bin; they do at least spin and lock in place, to stop the contents going everywhere.

"Mimi...!" Yua whimpers, clutching herself to her fiercely, and she weeps, and she wails, and it is a thing carried without words for some time.

She does, finally, lift her head; her face is a mess, but she'll let Miho wipe it, the way she's always accepted her care. Perhaps it is all the more precious, when Yua's been intruded on, that she welcomes her.

"Oh," she sighs, looking up to her. "I must... I must be strong, though, mustn't I? For Tykko... they're just, experimenting on her... they don't care if she dies, Mimi. They only care about -- collecting their data." Is that what Welwetes is for...? Tyrrha certainly can't connect to the internet... "She never asked them to do this to her... she doesn't even remember."

Rather than a human raised by Demons, could a Demon end up raised by humans...?

<Pose Tracker> Miho Ijuuin has posed.

Miho does not require words to love Yua; she will wait until she can have them again. And then, when she does lift her head, Miho takes those wipes and gently applies them to Yua's face. It is indeed precious to her--more so now.

But also precious is... "We must," Miho says, because she is not alone in it. "It sounds like them," she admits. "..."

Miho appreciates demons, in their way; one becoming a person...

"We'll help her," Miho assures Yua. Maybe it will happen just that way. "You're the one who can, most of all."

<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.

Yua sometimes loses her words, but Miho's always been so patient... she even remembers descending into Blanket Town, against her, regulating against her heartbeat while not offering any social back-and-forth at all.

(She doesn't know that those times can be relieving for Miho, too, when she can stop trying to put an expression on her face and focus on processing a long day, but that doesn't mean she's entirely unaware of it either. Everyone feels better after a trip to Blanket Town...)

"Mm, mm," Yua hums, nodding against her. "Mimi too... Mimi's being so strong for us. I know it hurt, Mimi... you hurt too."

Yua tugs at Miho's arm, opposite her, to pull her hand down to Yua's grasp. She laces her fingers between hers, clasping it to her chest, her own still-beating heart. It runs faster than Miho's, at rest; as polished as her physique may be, Miho is yet on another level entirely.

"Mimi's always been so good at explaining things to Tykko... maybe it's because you had to negotiate with a lot of Demons to find your Yua," she says, her voice soft in its third-person reflection. "I might be someone her... her people...? Are used to protecting, but... if I didn't have you beside me, I think she'd have a hard time. It's a lot easier to shake me... you've seen everything, Mimi."

<Pose Tracker> Miho Ijuuin has posed.

Miho does like Blanket Town. She won't initiate it herself, but it is a fine way to spend some time.

But... "Mm," Miho answers. It does hurt her too. But when Yua pulls, Miho lets herself be pulled, feeling Yua's heartbeat. And there, the matter of Miho and Tyrrha...

"That's part of it," Miho says. "I've encountered many demons. I'm good at dealing with them. But..."

She shakes her head. "It's not just that."

"They make sense to me," she says. "They're logical, if you think of things from their perspective. They seem to have their own variations, just like humans... but when you learn the rules, you know them."

"Sometimes I find it easier to deal with demons than I do humans."

"...Well, that aside, I'm glad I can help. She's important to me, too."

<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.

        It's not just that...

Yua listens, clasping Miho's hand to her heart; her eye closes, to focus on the words she's saying, but that doesn't mean she isn't listening. Miho's orderly existence... demons fit quite well there, don't they?

"Mimi likes when things make sense," she surmises. "Mm, mm... me too! I like when I can sort things... even when I was a little kid, mama said I'd put my toys all in a line, biggest to smallest, reds and then blues and then yellows..."

And now, of course, she sorts her life into binders.

"Tykko's important," Yua affirms, nodding. "Mm, and... Tykko's rules..."

She pauses, tilting her head. "... I don't... remember... what spirit Tykko was supposed to be," because, of course, Natari never told her, but Yua's own memory is evidently a little hazy. "But... I think she must be Shiisaa, Mimi. Because... she's weak to fire, but she says it reminds her of failing? And... there's stories of how a Shiisaa statue protected a village in the south from fires started by a mountain's power. So..."

Yua pauses, shaking her head, looking up to Miho again. "... but it's not just that," she adds, her brow creasing. "She's really attached to that Welwetes, right? That's weird, if she's a demon, isn't it? But, I think... they gave it a mane so she'd identify it as her twin. Shiisaa come in pairs, Mimi... and the girls close their jaws to keep good spirits inside the home, and the boys open their mouths to scare evil spirits away. So... that's why, I think."

<Pose Tracker> Miho Ijuuin has posed.

An orderly existence, where things make sense. Even if those things aren't quite the same as everyone else expects to make sense.

"Yes," Miho agrees. Then she smiles, faintly. Sorting... "Yes," Miho says. "I enjoy your organization."

But Tyrrha is important. And her rules... But--

Hmmm.

"I see..." Miho has studied, of course. Demons, but also Okinawan lore, mostly through Yua. So she listens to this tale...

"I see..."

"Yes, this seems logical to me," Miho says. "...And it means that despite..."

Well.

"Well, we'll have to tend to Welwetes too," she settles on saying. "But I see. Knowing this... may be helpful to us. And it says she is fundamentally a protector."

"...In her own way."

<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.

"Mm, I love Mimi's order," Yua hums, happily, in turn.

Things should have structure! And since their lives are built on the foundation of those structures... maybe they'll be able to help her, even though they're human?

"Those alerts said it was observing, but... mm, maybe there's something we can do?" Yua wonders, frowning. "But..."

She tilts her head, hugging Miho's hand to her as she presses herself in against her. "I know Tykko can be violent... but I don't think it's with a malicious heart. She really doesn't know what will happen... and she's curious, I think. She's only ever hurt me by accident... and she was alarmed when she realised she was holding my hand too tight. And... being able to to be violent just means she can attack anything dangerous, you know?"

Yua lifts Miho's hand, to her lips, to lay a kiss against her fingers. "I love Mimi's bloodstained hands," she says, softly, "because they took up a blade to keep me safe. Every scream is another miracle... if not for that, I'd already be dead. So... we won't reject violence, okay? Whether it's for curiosity, or necessity, or... hidden behind smiles and compliance."

Even if she can't strike a man, isn't Yua enacting her own assault, after all?

<Pose Tracker> Miho Ijuuin has posed.

"I'm glad. It is yours, too." Because she shares it!

Still, observing... but there might be something... "Oh," Miho says. "Para-Mind. He may have something useful to say," she says. "...Of course, it will probably be couched in so much drivel," she admits. "But still."

Miho holds Yua. "I agree," she sayas. "She is curious, unknowing. She does not realize the harm she can do..."

Pause. "Well, sometimes she wants to do harm. But I cannot blame that. I feel the same, sometimes."

She pauses, and looks touched as Yua says that soft statement. Those hands...

"...Right," Miho says. "Thank you..."

She nods. "We will not reject it," she agrees. "...Nor each other."

<Pose Tracker> Yua Ijuuin has posed.

"Mine too," Yua smiles, and adopts it willingly.

Miho invokes a force of chaos into their order, though, and Yua tilts her head. "Para-Mind? Would he help us?" She pauses, for a moment, and thinks. "Mm... no, if he thought it was funny, he'd definitely help us." Yua's devoted to her family, but that man... he's dedicated to his amusement, Yua thinks.

"When it comes to being defined like this, at least... she really is young," because of course Yua can never be quite sure how old a demon really is, or whether age is even a metric that matters, to them, classified in different measures. "But... we can teach her when it's okay to hurt people, Mimi. You're stern, so you can give her that order... and I'm soft, so I can help her fit it into the shape she has now. Maybe it's not how she's supposed to be... but I want to protect her, anyway."

And Miho wants to protect her, and Yua nuzzles her cheek against Miho's hand, finding her palm and looking up to her beneath it. "Never," she promises her. "Miimimi... rest with me a little longer, okay? Then we'll get up... I'll get dressed, and... I can be strong enough to help her, if you're helping me."

Maybe they can go feed the koi together, now the pond's all done... the fish they can't eat a symbol of stewardship and restraint.
