It's said if you go out the wrong side of Shinjuku Station, you lose a whole
day. Go out the correct side though, and you still might find yourself on the
wrong side of town. Even walking into Shinjuku's Red Light District subjects you
to endless barkers and touts, looking for opportunities to pull tourists and
young women alike into places where they might get scammed and exploited by the
predators of this place.
Neon signs glare offering disorienting guidance to businesses stacked upon one
another. All the vices of the city are available in smoky bars where one might
forget their dreams at the bottom of a glass, or take offers of companionship in
shady host or hostesses clubs.
Be careful. As smart as you are, wiser people than you have lost everything
here.

Cognitions abound in the studio lots; there are various buildings of various
sizes all over, though none so big or impressive as the Producer's Complex
in the center of the Kingdom. It's a lot of browns and blues, with concrete
for ground and very little vegetation. The Cognitions are cute little
shadowy guys with big hats. But there is a little bit of a problem:
Security--bigger Cognitions with even bigger hats--are all over looking for
'intruders'. However, the Cognitions seem not to see any difference between
you and themselves, so if you can make yourselves look like you're supposed
to be here...
You even have an opening -- there are Mindless Shadows causing a fuss here
in the lot, Ice Ravens swooping on the Cognitions milling about. If you
pretend those Shadows are the problem, you can pretend to be part of the
Security Team trying to solve it!
Whether by audacity or good cheer, there are clipboards around, and other
supplies to look important. Use them!

Kanae Fuyuki has heard about the Kingdom here, and about how Shadows from within swarmed out to the TV station. While she has no particular relationship or knowledge of Hana Fukami, she does like TV. ...And she does want to make sure monsters don't pour out into Shinjuku where, let it be stated, she lives.
(In part of it, anyway.)
So Kanae called up an acquaintance and set to work--but got more than she bargained for. Now, she's walked through the Door in the parking lot, and...
The Producer's Complex is ahead, and Kanae sneaks around. "...Hm," she says. "Security's tight, but..."
There are Ice Ravens swooping around. Swooping! And there are.. clipboards...
"I got it," she says.
Kanae walks up to a Cognition with a clipboard, a pencil behind her ear. "These birds swooping around on security are a menace--but they give me a great idea for a miniseries based on 'The Birds!' Sign this petition to present it to the Producer!"
She winks at the others. It might even work.

Yuuki also heard of this Kingdom -- and she has seen Hana Fukumi on TV, too. And it seems like a good chance to practice. For when she can rediscover that Atelier, and then...
So when Kanae called her up, she agreed quickly. And then she sent a message to her other ally, Magus.
She looks different in the Metaverse. Her hair has turned a bright blue and has a shimmer that trails after when she moves. Her eyes are a bright green instead of dark, and she scans the skies thoughtfully -- before she looks back at Kanae.
She nods. "Certainly, Fuyuki-san. Maybe--"
Kanae walks up. She offers a suggestion to them. Yuuki's mouth moves, lips trying to work, and then then she strides towards the Ice Ravens.
She stares at them. She has to back Kanae up. She has to be charming. She--
"BIRDS DON'T TOLERATE COLD!" she yells at them. "Except penguins and other birds evolved to do such things but--"

Misato had caught wind of the Kingdom as well. Information floated down from the usual channels, and it bears investigating. Fortunately, it seems that Yuuki intends to look into it as well...
...which means that, whether or not Kanae expected it, Magus arrives in the Kingdom soon after them.
Secretly, she had waited for them to go in before following them through the door. All the better to maintain her secret.
When they arrive, there's already chaos brewing. For them, that's perfect. Security is tight as Kanae says, but...
"It's nothing we can't handle." Magus states confidently.
And Kanae has a plan! There are clipboards and other office supplies... Kanae winks - and Magus nods back.
"Of course. I hear he's a fan of the classics." Magus says, approaching Kanae and signing the petition with a fake name. She raises her voice, just a little - just enough to be heard over the commotion. "I'm sure this would look favorably on everyone involved..."
...And then Yuuki starts yelling at the birds. Magus nearly drops the pen. ...Of course the inaccuracies would bother her.

Three is better than two. Kanae's fine with it. She looks different in here, too--in a coat over robes, a Hunter with a gunblade at her back. She looks over the otheres in their outfits--But then gets back to her plan.
"Right," she says of Magus, "That's just it. I'm sure it'll--"

"YEAH!" says one of the Security Shadows, a biger thing than even a human. "These birds are historically inaccurate! Let's smash 'em all!"
Kanae looks at the security now focused entirely on the birds and...
"Well," she says, "If it works, it works. C'mon, let's go."

The group has arrived at the Producer's Complex, a big brown building with
lots of windows. On the bottom floor is reception: a desk near the elevator
that has a sign detailing what's on each floor. The bottom floor being
Reception, the next is the News Studio, Offices, Security HQ, and then of
course the Producer's Floor. However, simply going where you like is going
to be a problem...
Because this floor is absolutely crawling with security Cognitions. The
secretary Cognition has a nice computer and a nice hairstyle, but is as
small as the rest. The Security cognitions are twice as big Shadowy
creatures with suspenders and cigars. However, they're all in the meeting
room next to the reception floor, and it's possible to sneak past them.
It's nerve-wracking, but if you're careful, and don't spook the secretary,
your group can get to the elevator or even the stairs without a fight!

Yuuki stares at Magus's back. She handled this better than her! She has more charm! This means Yuuki will be the weak link and then--
She starts spiraling before the birds can even respond.
Except, somehow, it works. Her green eyes, so wide a moment ago, narrow. She looks at the security -- then the birds -- and then back at the security. She nods, quickly. "R-Right, yes, of course."
She tries to not let show that she is positively thrown off as they head onward -- to the Producer's Complex. A big, brown building; and as they enter, she sees the single Secretary Cognition...
...and the big, burly Security Cognitions all gathered in a meeting room. They appear to be watching a presentation. Yuuki pauses, then glances at the others -- and brings a finger over her lips.
"Let's go for the stairs," she says in a whisper. "Probably quieter. And I don't think we want to get all of them--" A motion to the meeting room. "--angry at us."

Magus nods back to Kanae - and then watches as Yuuki's shout serves as a rallying cry, getting Security focused on the birds.
"...Swift thinking, Yuuki Hoshizora." Magus comments. Security's change in focus lets them slip forward to the Producer's Complex. She expects to find more trouble here... but thankfully, it seems like the Security team is in the middle of a meeting right now.
"...Agreed." Magus agrees with Yuuki with a nod. "One must pick one's battles... and the elevator could just as easily be used to trap us, if we're caught."
She considers the Secretary, though - they seem busy right now, but if they get spooked... Magus approaches the desk, drawing something from within her cloak and setting it on the desk. It's...
...a carefully-wrapped package of muffins?
"From an admirer." She explains - and then turns to join the others. Distracting someone with sweets is always a quick shortcut to get them to turn a blind eye...

Kanae sneaks along into the building, and just smiles rather than saying anything about Yuuki being so thrown. She doesn't compliment Yuuki like Magus does, but she does seem quietly pleased. As they reach the building though, and see the Producer's men all gathered together...
"Yes," Kanae agrees with Yuuki. "Quiet's the way to go. ...Pick your battles, right."
Magus has the secretary covered, so Kanae starts the walking. As she detects a Shadow about to look their way, she suddenly ducks down, using her hard-won agility as a tennis ace to get down without slowing down.
Elevator, elevator...
When and if they get in, when it closes, "You two were good picks for this."

"It's important. And when we do fight..." She clenches a fist. "Leave no mistake as to who the victor will be!"
Yuuki nods -- and she pauses as Magus goes to the secretary. What is she-- She blinks, though. Muffins? Those look really good... She didn't expect Magus to have something like that. Maybe she knows a baker?
(Yuuki also knows a baker. She doesn't put it together.)
"Oh!" the Secretary Cognition exclaims. Her cartoonishly large eyes go wide -- and hearts bubble around her head. "Thank you~!"
For her part, Yuuki follows after Kanae -- and then she ushes Magus into the elevator too.

The news floor is expansive. Is it bigger than the building outside? Don't
worry about it. Your group has found themselves next to a greenscreen, which
can project the weather display onto the camera output without having to
reproduce it for you! ...Greenscreens can be hard to get used to, but don't
worry about that, either.
A dazzlingly handsome Shadow-man with a strong Shadow-jaw and a good
hairstyle sparkles at you. "I'm the head meteorologist here," he says. "Are
you ready for your first day giving the weather report? Don't worry, you
just have to keep track of the teleprompter and stay out of the way of the
readings, and also make sure to point to the right things on the screen by
viewing yourself in the monitor."
"Easy, right?"
"I knew you could do it! Now, some of you will need to man the cameras, and
some of you will have to give the report. Remember, we need to start giving
reports on Shadow danger too -- they're about as mindless as a storm. Get to
it!"
Well. Get to it.

Magus nods back to Kanae, as she states her agreement. Yuuki's declaration, then, gets a smirk out of her.
"Indeed. I expect nothing less." She replies.
Hearts bubble above the Secretary's head, and Magus offers her a nod.
"Of course. Do have a nice day." She offers - and moves to join the others in the elevator, as Yuuki ushers her into it. She doesn't explain the inexplicable baked goods.
"And you as well." She offers to Kanae.
The elevator goes up - and with a 'ding!', lets them off onto the newsfloor, a large green screen already set up... where they're immediately found by a Shadow-man who introduces himself as the head meteorologist and puts them to work.
"...He didn't even give us a moment." Magus mutters, irritated. "Very well. We will have to maintain the facade. ...How reckless, trusting us with such valuable equipment."
Some of them need to man the cameras, and some have to give the report...
"...Yuuki Hoshizora. Meteorology seems more your area of expertise." Magus observes. She approaches one of the cameras. "Kanae Fuyuki - your talents I am less familiar with. Where do your skills lie? Let us form a plan and execute it."

When they do fight... "Good confidence," Kanae says. "I'm with you there. When you fight, fight to win."
But hearts!! That's excellent. And as for the elevator...
Kanae waits for the open elevator--but the Shadow-man is there, a meteorologist. Kanae laughs softly. "Time's money in television," she says. "It is kind of funny to trust us immediately..."
But, "Actually," Kanae says, "I know how to work one of these cameras. I'm used to film and TV stuff; i study it. Might go to school about it."
"I'm thinking... Hozhizora-san gives the weather report, you give the Shadow report, Magus, and I'll work the camera to best advantage both of you."
"We'll make it work!"
She gives Mr. Meteorologist a thumbs-up from afar.

"W-Wait--" Yuuki stammers out to the meteorologist. Except, of course, that he is insisting they get to work right away. She lets out a sigh, then, and she looks at Kanae. She hesitates. Do they go along?
They don't have much choice.
"M-Meteorology? Well... I think I can manage," she says. She hesitates for a second, then she starts walking forward. There is a hesitant glance back at Magus. This also involves talking, but Magus hasn't dealt with her in non-supernatural situations.
She steps in front of the camera. Then, she nods to Kanae -- she's ready.
"Today's w-weather is... a chance of precipitation, here--"

"'Time is money', hm? I see. So they have no choice but to decide quickly." Magus considers. She looks toward Yuuki as she's left stammering. Her expression is sympathetic, but it might be hard to see it behind the mask.
"Are you now?" Magus asks, as Kanae explains that she actually studies film and TV. "Then you shall be our secret weapon. We will be counting on you."
Yuuki, meanwhile, thinks she can manage meteorology. She meets that hesitant glance with a nod.
She hasn't dealt with her in non-supernatural situations... but Misato has.
Magus herself, at Kanae's suggestions, handles the Shadow report - and her explanation is harsh and clinical, emphasizing the danger while proposing various strategies...
In the end, their report is highly rated, due in no small part to Kanae's expert camerawork keeping things moving while downplaying any of the flaws in their respective approaches.
They're cleared to move on!

Office space! Carpeted floors, wooden cubicles and tables, and of course,
the ever-present haze of cigarette smoke. Cognitions--little Shadow-guys in
collared shirts--scurry around trying to show themselves hard at work.
But there's a /boss/ Cognition here now. He is just as short as the others,
but he has a combover of black hair and Shadowy scalp, a bigger cigar than
most of the others, and a desk in its own room.
"Oh!" a Cognition says. "You're the new team! The VP is waiting for you!"
The Vice President!
"He doesn't like anybody... Good luck! You just have to show him that
presentation you've been working on!"
Oh no.

"I guess it's extra-true when there's a big evil Producer running things," Kanae reflects. But Yuuki... does stammer. "You'll do fine," Kanae assures her.
Their secret weapon... "Wait 'til you see what I can do!"
She does her best with the camera, of course--but soon, they move on to the next floor, and...
Kanae wrinkles her nose. "Smoke..."
The Cognitions and Shadows scurry around all over, until one comes up to them. "Oh!" he says. "You're the new team! The VP is waiting for you!"
"he doesn't like anybody... Good luck! You just have to show him that presentation you were working on!"
A beat, "...even if it's women making the presentation.... Uh, good luck for sure."
Kanae frowns. "...You notice something?" she asks. "Everybody who's not a secretary is a guy." She scowls. "Guess it's that kind of workplace..."
She shakes her head. "Anyway, here's my suggestion--our presentation is about how the wandering Shadows are hurting our ratings, and how we can get those demons we saw to bolster our viewership."
"Work for you two?"
When they get in, they see... the VP. he looks very important. he has a cigar. "So, whatcha got for me, girls?"
Time to present...!

All told, Yuuki isn't surprised at how Magus gives her report. It's very... Magus to be so matter of fact, so critical, so harsh. And that prompts a small smile from Yuuki as she does so. Kanae might notice.
But they're cleared to keep going.
As they reach the next room, her nose wrinkles at the smell of smoke. And then her eyes widen -- as she hears they're giving a presentation to the VP, who doesn't like anyone or anything, and specifically because they're women.
Her expression wilts, just slightly.
"...Yeah," she says. "I wonder... if this is something Fukumi-san is going through."
She hesitates as Kanae explains. Then, she nods her head. "That's a good idea. We could do... um. If we can give some figures, it would help--but I don't think we have time. But..."
She looks between them. "We should relate a few stories, and we should make sure we have a solution in mind, too. About how to handle those Shadows, and how to win over the Demons."
She exhales, then squares her shoulders.
"Let's go!"

"Indeed." Magus agrees with a nod, at Kanae's reflection. "I look forward to it."
She's too focused on her report to catch Yuuki's smile... but it might be for the best. She might trip over her words.
They proceed onward, and...
"...Smoke." Magus echoes Kanae distastefully. Cognitions scurry, and one approaches them. His words aren't lost on her. A frown crosses her face, and she looks toward Kanae.
"...I thought I got a bad feeling. I hate places like this." She comments, and looks toward Yuuki. "...I imagine. It must be an uphill battle to be taken seriously."
...And they have an uphill battle ahead of themselves, too, now.
Kanae and Yuuki both offer suggestions and Magus nods.
"Yes - I think that's the best course of action. Let's go with that, then." She agrees. And soon enough, they're brought before the VP. Kanae suggested how to use demons to bolster viewership, and Yuuki says they should have solutions in mind, and Magus...
"...I believe the demons and the Shadows are a problem we can use to our advantage." Magus starts. "Lure them to each other and make them fight - and have our men ready to clean up the winners. ...And make sure to bring a camera. The spectacle is sure to draw an audience."
...That's one approach.

Kanae, unlike Magus, does catch Yuuki's little smile. She 'hmms' about that, but doesn't say anything. Instead, they're all in agreement about smoke. "I hate it," Kanae agrees about places like this--an uphill battle indeed. "I really hate it."
But she keeps it to herself, for now. Misato, though... Or rather, Magus--Magus has a solution.
The VP listens, and listens, and listens. And then...
"Good!" he says. "Yes, I agree. We can use this... the Producer will be glad to see me taking the initiative on this, too."
"But it's impressive how an idea like this comes out of girls like you three! You had help, right? You gotta introduce me to the guys you're getting these ideas from."
They succeed, but...
It's exhausting, dealing with him.

The security floor is ahead. When the elevator dings, the floor out there is
metal, with lots of glass and a /ton/ of security Cognitions, Shadowy men
with big muscles, suspenders, and important-looking hats. They don't notice
you immediately, but the offices on this floor include all the bigwigs in
the Producer's security team.
But you're not alone. You've been able to clear the path for a number of the
Rebels to join you, and here they are, ready to fight. Are you ready to lead
the Rebels to victory at the heart of the Producer's fortress?
It'll take inspiration and a thorough approach to knowing your troops and
their needs, but if you can do it, you can get by with a lot easier a time
than going it alone would have been.

"Me, too," Yuuki says of Kanae hating it. She shakes her head.
"H-Harsh... but that's true," Yuuki says to Magus, with a nod of her head. And their plan proves enough to get through the meeting with the VP -- but it's exhausting, being talked down to like that. She has trouble with it; Yuuki mostly manages a nervous smile in response.
But when they leave, they can take the elevator up. It arrives with a ding.
The doors open up -- and there is a large number of Security Cognitions there, with those brawny looks. Her eyes widen a little. Behind them, smaller Cognitions peek out. Office workers and others, ready to take the fight to them.
But they look nervous.
Yuuki sucks a breath in, as she considers. Then, she draws her rapier; it gleams in the overhead lighting.
"Onward!" she yells. "Let's take the fight to the Producer...!"

Kanae and Yuuki both agree with her. Places like this are awful - and Magus only feels that all the more as she hears the VP's response. Taking credit for their ideas - and in the same breath suggesting that they couldn't have come up with it themselves...
Magus tenses - and one can see how much effort it takes to hold herself back from doing something that'll cause problems for all of them.
They're able to get through, at least, and make their way up to the security floor. Magus spares Yuuki a glance, then nods toward Kanae. Yuuki draws her rapier dramatically and Magus's stare lingers just a little long.
...She can be pretty cool...
But they do have a job to finish, so she forces herself to focus.
"...The Producer lords over this place with an iron fist. He puts people in preset boxes, and accepts nothing outside him. That ends today." Magus says. "It's time to crush his ambitions and cast him from the perch he's made for himself."

Kanae notices Magus's restraint, and when they get to the way to the next floor, "Good job holding back. ...it wouldn't have done us any good to fight there."
Ding!
So many Security people. Kanae narrows her eyes. But suddenly--Yuuki draws her rapier dramatically, and Kanae blinks in surprise. They have a job to finish, all right.
"Right!" Kanae agrees, and draws forth her gunblade. "We'll lead the way--but we expect you to follow."
"For artistic freedom!"
As it happens, Kanae has a lot of tricks up her sleeve--not least of which is multiple Personas.
But that should help, in here...

You now have a key to the top floor elevator, where Producer Matsumoto can
be found. But that's not all you've found! As Rebel Cognitions cheer you on,
you spy some papers that have a lot of useful intelligence... Including a
snippet here:
'That goddamned bird was here again, demanding to know why we lost track of
the prisoner. But she's wrong; there's no chance that 'Hana Fukami' will
risk what life he already has by rebelling. It would take down that
weatherman of his too, probably--to say nothing of that secretary and the
stuntwoman. No, honesty isn't an option here; he'll back down, because he
knows what's good for him, whatever the Rebels say.'
'At least she's assured us that damn Bride won't be back to summon more of
those Mindless Shadows or Demons or what have you... so I guess we have to
keep working with her for now, if she's protecting us from /that./'
This is also a Security cache; a number of old-fashioned weapons are here;
the sort of pistol one would find in a Noir film, a bronze-hilted sword, a
hammer with an ornate golden gargoyle's head. Things like that; feel free to
make up your own, as long as it fits this general vibe, as a T3 piece of
weaponry.

Together, with the Rebels, they successfully make their way to the elevator -- and have a key to boot. They do not, though, have the strength to continue to face him, yet...
...but, the next time will be different.
And there is a note. Yuuki frowns -- and her expression is heavier at the open transphobia. "Awful," she says. "Taking about her that way..."
She shakes her head quickly. "We'll have to check the caches. And... I want to come back. to... to try to help Fukami-san, if I can."

Artistic freedom - a worthy cause. Magus nods, at that. And their rallying cry boosts the revels, making their way to the top floor. They acquire intelligence!
...It takes a second for understanding of what she's reading to click with her - and a slow frown crosses her face.
"...Indeed." She agrees with Yuuki with a nod. "It's disgusting. And to use others against her to force her compliance... There are no depths they will sink to, it seems."
She can be harsh and take the most direct path to her victory... but even she has her limits.
"...Indeed. Let us see what we can use." She agrees. She wants to help Hana... "...If you feel that drive, then I'm certain you will succeed."

Next time will be different. But Kanae looks, too.
"...It sucks," Kanae agrees with Yuuki. She says it quietly, though; she's not 'supposed' to know about these things... but...
"He seems to know just who to use, too. ...We can't let him get away with it."
She looks to the others. "Sure, we can check them. ...I can try to help, too."
She smiles, then. "...Pleasure working with you. Hopefully we can finish that Producer next time, too."
