"I've been waiting for this!"

The undefeated boxing champion of Gekkoukan High, Akihiko is a popular senpai who’s calm, cool, and smart. He has a significant female fanbase within the school, that he ranges from clueless to annoyed about. Still, his reputation is significant and overall positive. He’s additionally a well known close associate with Mitsuru Kirijo.

Background

    Akihiko Sanada grew up very briefly with his parents and younger sister, Miki Sanada. Unfortunately, his parents died and he and his younger sister would live in an orphanage instead. It was there he met Shinjiro Aragaki, where they would quickly become close. (Additionally, this would also be where he meets Goro Akechi, a sullen boy Akihiko never got along with.) Akihiko was a bit of a crybaby during this time, but his sense of justice was strong. There was a time where he and Shinji fought as he sobbed, because Shinji had stolen a doll for Miki.

    Eventually, Akihiko was chosen to be adopted out of the orphanage without his younger sister, Miki. She was working on a medal to give him, but never got to properly gift it. In the weeks between, there were sightings of a strange, white haired man skulking about the orphanage that ultimately would be dismissed. The dismissal would end up causing a tragedy. Seemingly suddenly, the orphange would erupt into a blaze and burn down. Miki, Akihiko’s sister, died in the blaze, and Goro, that sullen boy, mocked her brother for being weak. Akihiko and Shinjiro promised each other to become strong together.

    Akihiko’s feeling of being utterly useless here would spiral hard, becoming an obsession with becoming stronger. Now with his adopted family, he ended up getting into boxing with Gekkoukan during his middle school years. He quickly improved, becoming strong and known as the undefeated champion, all of his struggles up to that point paid off. Still, it is not enough.

    For some undetermined amount of time prior, Akihiko has been experiencing a strange hour every night where everyone turns into coffins and strange, shadowed creatures roam. After one of his boxing matches, after other schools scouts attempt to pouch him and fangirls harrass him, he is approached by Mitsuru Kirijo. He was handed an envoker, and two promises. Challenges where he didn’t have to hold back, and answers about the 25th hour they experienced. Akihiko initially thought she lost it, but after confirming it that night, he grew to like Mitsuru.

    Mitsuru, Akihiko, and Shinjiro together would form the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad, or SEES for short, as a clandestine school club. They worked together on several missions, including attempting to scale Tartarus together, but never got very far. The trio wouldn’t last very long either. In their first year of high school together, on October 10th, an incident where Shinji’s Persona went berserk occurred and accidently killed a civilian, Ken Amada’s mother.

    Shinji couldn’t live with his mistake and left SEES. Their friendship would become strained, as Akihiko insists that people need Shinji’s protection. Quietly, Akihiko felt a bit betrayed. He saw Shinji leaving SEES as abandoning their promise to become strong together. However, Shinji felt far too guilty to keep working alongside SEES and would begin taking Persona Suppressents - drugs, to keep his Persona in check. Akihiko would continually pester Shinji to rejoin SEES, especially after Minato and Minako join SEES and the group begin to see real progress.

    The incident had its own effect on Akihiko, who took it as another sign that he isn’t strong enough yet. He doubles down, training and pushing himself harder than before, obsessed with becoming strong enough where he can carry the world all on his own. A streak that continues throughout modern SEES. He becomes injured on the full moon on April 9th at the hands of the Magician Shadow and consequently struggles to feel useful in the time afterwards. His excitement on getting back into the field draws both Mitsuru’s and Yukari’s annoyance. However, he still feels strongly that he must be useful somehow, that he has to be strong for everyone’s sake. Otherwise, people die.

Persona

The half brother of Castor and a Greek Hero. Polydeuces inherited his divine father’s immortality and would become the Gemini constellation with his brother.
