- Summary: Two pairs of teens have gone to the movies! Kazusa and Wakana and then Kanae and Tomoe run into each other coming out of the same film, and have a short, if awkward, conversation about the film-making techniques in it. One of them can't handle greeting others like a normal person.

It's summer, and that means taking a load off. There's a lot of hard work that goes into being Kazusa Motojima, but even she can use a break. She's at a different theater, this time, plus she has a friend with her. And they've just gotten out of a movie.
Kazusa stands about 5'2", with long, straight black hair and purple eyes.Today she's dressed in a pink halter top and black capris, with a leather (desither) purse and a pair of flseek black (designer) shades perched on her nose. (Or hanging from her shirt, since they're indoors.) She's recognizeable for being popular and rich, and on the Rhythmic Gymnastics team.
Plus her family's company makes a bunch of consumer electronics and video games.
With her is Wakana Oosaka, with shrt brown hair and brown eyes. She's wearing a yellow floral sundress with a teddy bear backpack, and is mostly known for anging out with Kazusa (and also being on the rhythmic gymnastics team.)
"That was a really cute movie, don't you think?" gushes Wakana happily as theyre walking out of an emptying theater. "The way he helped replant all those flowers for her, wasn't it so romantic?"
Kazusa shrugs a little. "Yeah, I guess. The costuming was really good though."
They're just slowly walking and talking as they head outside. They're not hard to spot.
<Pose Tracker> Kanae Fuyuki has posed.
Summer! Not just summer, but Sunday! Emphasis on day; Kanae is out in Shinjuku for the afternoon.
For her part, Kanae Fuyuki is 5'3", likewise with long and straight black hair, but with brown eyes and skin. She stands out pretty easily in a lot of places, and not just because of her fashionable outfits! (Today: short skirt, thigh-highs, and tennis shoes, with a light layered tanktop set.) No shades! She doesn't need them. Or usually wear them, for that matter. But she isn't alone, because...
"That was really romantic," Kanae agrees without actually listening in on Wakana and Kazusa; she's saying the same thing from the other exit a few yards away! "I'm glad you came with me."
Her companion does have glasses, though they're prescription and not shades--5'7", black hair, gray eyes, he's in a button-down and some slacks in complementary colors, short sleeved. Touma Okazaki replies, "It wasn't just that, though--the techniques they used in setting up the final shots... You mentioned those to me before. It's nice to see them in action."
"You noticed?" It's practically visible the way sparkles light up over Kanae, because somebody chose the right dialogue option.
But she reaches the door at the same time as Kazusa and Wakana, and Touma gently puts out his hand to forestall Kanae walking straight into them. "Excuse us," he says.
This gives Kanae time to recognize the two of them and the cute teddy bear backpack.
<Pose Tracker> Kazusa Motojima has posed.
"Didn't you like it?" inquires Wakana as they continue to walk. "I can choose something else, next time..."
Kazusa shakes her head quickly. "No, it's fine. I'm just... distracted, that's all." She's a little moody, a little pensive, though she's not sure why.
At the door, Kazusa and Wakana also stop, and it's Wakana who responds fiirst. "Oh--sorry, excuse us. You can go first." But a second later her face lights up. "Oh! Fyuki-san, Okazaki-san. Funny running into the two of you here."
Kazusa was about to plow for the exit but stops when Wakana does, unwilling to run her friend over. "Oh, hey." Less a greeting and more 'acknowledgement of their existence.' It could be worse...
"What movie did you two see?" asks Wakana cheerfully, as if Kazusa wasn't bringing down the entire mood over there.
<Pose Tracker> Kanae Fuyuki has posed.
Before Touma can reply to the offer to go first, Wakana recognizes them. Kanae brightens. "Oh, Oosaka-san," Kanae answers in return. "It's nice though, isn't it?" A polite way to respond to running into someone. Though... it isn't always nice to run into Kazusa, on the other hand. See: her 'acknowledgement'.
"Motojima-san," Touma nods back. Kanae continues, "We were just out for an early movie. We saw 'July Rain,'" she says. "It's a romance, but the director is known for more artsy movies so it has a few really interesting techniques..."
Touma chimes in, "What about you two?"
Since it's polite to ask! He is not brought down at all, but... It's probably not surprising that he's in a good mood with her around.
Neither of them comments on Kazusa's mood. There's not really a polite way to.
<Pose Tracker> Kazusa Motojima has posed.
"Yeah, it is," replies Wakana, like a normal sociable person. Unlike Kazusa.
Touma acknowleding her does get Kazusa to look over. "Okazaki-san. Fuyuki-san," she says with a small nod. Okay, she ssaid their names. That's better, right?
"Oh, that's the movie we say!" Wakana exclaims. "It was really sweet, don't you think?" But Kanae mentions 'interesting techniques', and Wakana focuses on that. "Oh, are you a cinephile, Fuyuki-san?" She gives a (not so) subtle nudge to Kazusa's side, trying to draw her into the conversation more. "That's cool, what kind of techniques did you notice?"
There is a brief look in Kazusa's direction, that somehow conveys 'hey she liked some of the technical parts of the movie maybe you can relate to that?' It's a very nuanced look.
The flat look Kazusa gives back is much easier. '... fine.' She looks to Kanae next. "So what did you notice?" she asks, equally flat.
She's... trying? Technically?
<Pose Tracker> Kanae Fuyuki has posed.
Well, three of them are normal. There's that!
"I do!" Kanae enthuses at Wakana. Touma smiles. He did expect her to like it, after all. But Kanae continues, "Mm-hm. But it's not just art films that are good to watch if you want a broad idea of a nation's cinema; it's the wider-distribution stuff, too. It's all part of the broader picture."
"She's done a lot of studying on these things," Touma offers. Then, Wakana asks what she noticed...
And Kazusa chimes in, too.
"Well," Kanae says, "The way that the camerawork was tightly focused at the end--moving from the body language in to the subtle expressions at the end to build emotion..."
"It was really well-made."
"But," Touma says, "We shouldn't take up more of your time than we already have. Right?"
"Right, Kanae agrees, with a glance at Kazusa. "It was nice seeing you!"
They start to go.
<Pose Tracker> Kazusa Motojima has posed.
The broader picture. "I guess that's true," says Wakana. "I don't really get into all the technical stuff," she admits, "Though I do like seeing what costuming choices say about the individual characters." Kanae, apparently, has studied. "I think that's kind of cool!"
Kanae shares, and Wakana leans in a little to show interest. Kazusa just... watches. "Oooh, yeah. Good catch! I didn't think about it that much, but you're right. That did make everything more intense."
Bout Kanae and Touma make to leave, and Wakana deflates a little. She looks back to Kazusa, who just glances away.
"W-well... it was... nice running into you two," Wakana says, trying to put on a cheerful smile still. "Maybe I'll catch you around later?" 'I', as in, 'without Kazusa.' It's a sort of indirect apology.
Kazusa looks to Wakana and then looks away, staring at nothing in particular. Then, abruptly, she says, "Did you notice what they did with the flowers?" She's not directly looking at Kanae and Touma, but it's still fairly clear who she's addressing.
<Pose Tracker> Kanae Fuyuki has posed.
"That's OK," Kanae says to Wakana with a smile. "You can just enjoy the movie, too. It's a totally valid way to approach it!" A beat, "Oh, so you're into costuming?" she wonders. "That's a whole different thing..."
Kanae smiles back at Wakana again. "Yeah! It's the little things."
Touma notices Wakana deflating, but there's not really a polite way to address it given Kazusa's ways at the moment. But... Wakana is trying, and--
"Definitely," Kanae says to Wakana as they go. "We'll--"
Did you notice?
Touma and Kanae share a look, and then Kanae looks back at Kazusa. She could just say yes--but that's a closed answer! So instead she asks, "What'd you catch? I always like hearing other people's takeaways."
Touma for his part just sort of stands politely for the moment... still prepared to give Kanae an 'out'.
<Pose Tracker> Kazusa Motojima has posed.
"Well, a little bit," Wakana admits. "Some of it's from like, a fashion angle, you know? Like, if you watch something set in a different time, what types of fashions do they draw from, that kind of thing."
She pauses, though, when Kazusa speaks up, looking at her with a mixed expression. ven she isn't sure how this'll go, it seems.
Kazusa finally looks to Kanae as she engages with her question. But she only managse eye contact for a moment before she looks slightly aside. "... they kept most of the flowers in the garden out of focus throughout the movie. But they brought more of them in focus as the two leads got closer together. Like it was just... symbolic of their relationship coming into focus, or... something."
Having delivered that observation, she looks to Wakana with a questioning look.
Wakana smiles a little. "Oh yeah! And then that last shot, with the flower perfectly in focus between them, right?" She looks to Kanae with a smile that says 'See she's trying isn't that nice?'
... Too bad Kazusa still looks... disinterested. Or maybe uncomfortable.
<Pose Tracker> Kanae Fuyuki has posed.
"Oh!" Kanae nods along. "I can see that. The fashion angle is pretty interesting, too..."
"The attention to detail for some films is impressive," Touma adds, because he's still here! But... Kazusa speaks up, and actually looks at Kanae. Kanae isn't going to insist on eye contact or anything, but she does notice that she's answering. The leads, and...
"Yes!" Kanae says, bringing her hands together in a soft clap and leaning forward. "I really liked that. I think that's exactly what it was meant to be!"
But Wakana and Kazusa... They start to make a little more sense to Kanae, anyway. Kanae smiles back at Wakana.
Touma looks between the three of them and adds, "And I think the choice of which flowers to use was something they paid attention, too, instead of only picking the ones that would look good on camera."
<Pose Tracker> Kazusa Motojima has posed.
"Yeah, like... clothes express a lot about a person, both on and off-camera, right?" Like, say, a teddy bear backpack. "But it's also interesting to think about how the costumes are made, since..." Wakana glances at Kazusa for a brief moment and then juts says, "... because sometimes you have some crazy looking costumes, right?" Was she about to say something else?
But Kanae actually agrees, and Kazusa just gives a little bit of a nod.
Wakana is smiling a bit more, clearly pleased at this development.
Touma mentions the flower choices. Kazusa actually looks to him and gives a slow nod. "... the flower language, or whatever. I'd... have to go look that up."
Wakana chimes in, "Oh yeah, I think you're right, Okazaki-san! And I wonder what they do with the flowers afterwards, anyway? Do you think they filmed in a real garden or used a set?"
<Pose Tracker> Kanae Fuyuki has posed.
"That's true!" Kanae agrees cheerfully. "Speaking of, I love your backpack!" A beat, because she doesn't know what Wakana was going to say... But, it's fine. "Sometimes you do," Kanae agrees. She laughs a little.
But Touma nods back to Kazusa. "Exactly. I'm only a student of it myself, of course." Modesty! Or maybe he really isn't an expert, and just knows about it. Either's possible.
But Touma is thoughtful at Wakana's question, and Kanae says, "You know, I'm not sure? I'd think it depends." But in this case? "Definitely a real garden for at least part of it--I think I recognize some of the flowers..."
"But they had to get pretty lucky to find them in-season when they wanted to shoot."
<Pose Tracker> Kazusa Motojima has posed.
Wakana smiles and turns so Kanae can see her backpack more clearly. "Thanks! Isn't it cute? I saw it and I just had to have it. If you want, I can tell you the store I got it from."
Touma is a student of it. Kazusa glances at him for a moment. "... My mother practices ikebana." Traditional flower arrangement. Only... Kazusa doesn't offer any follow-up comment.
But she certainly wasn't enthused.
Wakana nods to Touma. "It'd save them a lot of effort if they had a real garden to work with... They plan these movies out in advance, right? Maybe they waited to film until everything was in-season."
<Pose Tracker> Kanae Fuyuki has posed.
"Aah!" Kanae beams. "Super cute! Sure, tell me, tell me!" She is happy to get along with Wakana. And Touma looks back at Kazusa at the asme time. There's no followup but, "Ah," he says. "That's a really beautiful tradition." It's an art, after all. But he doesn't follow up, either; Kazusa's clearly not that into it. Instead, Wakana gets the next response. "They do. That could be it."
"Probably," Kanae agrees. "...But it's getting on a bit. It was nice to see both of you," she says this time, and sets a hand briefly on Touma's arm to tell him she's ready to go. "Catch you again later?"
"Right," Touma agrees, and opens up the door for her and maybe them, if they're going too.
<Pose Tracker> Kazusa Motojima has posed.
"Sure!" Wakana smiles and pulls out a small notebook from her backpack to scribble down the store name on a page, then rips it out and hands it to Kanae.
Kazusa shrugs a little. "Some people are really into it." Not her, though. But she's not casting judgement on Touma, at least.
"It was nice seeing the two of you, too!" Wakana says as she puts her notebook away.
Kazusa nods. "Bye, Fuyuki-san, Okazaki-san." She's not really any cheerier but she's very slightly less agressively moody, at least.
"Thank you, Okazaki-san," says Wakana as she steps through, and Kazusa just gives a nod. The two split and head in the opposite direction from Touma and Kanae.
"Well, that was nice, wasn't it?" asks Wakana cheerfully.
"... Mm. Yeah, I guess," answers Kazusa, before lapsing into silence as Wakana continues to gush about the film.
