"Don't waste my time!"
Isabeau Fontaine is a fashionable futch French transfer student with a history in Inaba and Mikage-cho, thanks to her Japanese stepfather. When she found her birth father, Laurent, she followed him to Kagurazaka... and became /Shujin's/ problem at the start of second year. Arrogant, mean, and competitive to a fault, Isabeau avoids becoming the target of direct bullying thanks to her interest in urban exploration and ghost-hunting -- daring habits which have painted her as a 'witch', rumoured to be capable of cursing anyone who crosses her. This fearsome reputation earns her few friends, but luckily, she desires none; Isabeau is fiercely independent, kept apart from others by her unpleasant nature. She hides a great deal of creativity behind her struggles to keep up in a Japanese classroom, with talents in both singing and sculpture, but her fellow Tennis Club members know that her levels of obsession can grow to disturbing heights. She may be poorly socialised, but one thing's certain: she is wholeheartedly devoted to proving herself to her father and claiming the love long denied her as an unknown bastard child, with a Persona to prove it.
Background
Isabeau spent her early years in France, starting school late, at six years old. She moved to Inaba when she was ten as Isabeau Taikou, where she met her best friend, Kanae, despite her unpleasant nature. She would later move to Hawaii a few months after she turned thirteen, only to move back to Mikage-cho another few months later. She attended St. Hermelin's for her first year of high school, but when she found her birth father Laurent, she entered his care and moved to Kagurazaka with him, enrolling in Shujin Academy at the start of April for the new school year.
Isabeau's Bad Reputation...
... in France (2001--2005, 6-10 years old)
Isabeau Laporte was a child who did not play well with others, at first preferring the company of her mother and then later going off on her own; she was bullied for her weight, her lack of a father (alongside her mother's constantly rotating stable of boyfriends), and her lack of social skills. She became an unpleasant, overly-critical child who wanted to succeed in order to stand out, because she couldn't expect the people around her to treat her warmly otherwise. Her creativity was impeccably nurtured, but at the same time, she was competiting with her own mother's whims for attention, which began shaping her into someone who spitefully valued hard work over capriciousness -- and who would, in turn, criticise others for slacking.
... in Inaba (2005--2008, 10-13 years old)
Isabeau Taikou was a fat bastard child, with an extremely poor grasp of Japanese and a loud and demanding nature, and so the small town residents of Inaba reviled her. Her stepfather, Yutaka Taikou, was an quiet man and an artist who wasn't a local, either -- though he'd lived in Inaba for several years before he travelled to France to meet Isabeau's mother Fleur -- and so could offer her little protection. She made a name for herself as a bully, largely in efforts to counteract the bullying she received, and at one point befriended Kanae despite herself when shoving someone being cruel to her into the mud.
... in Hawaii (2008, 13 years old)
Isabeau was a completely withdrawn girl who said little to anyone.
... in Mikage-cho (2008--2012, 13-16 years old)
Isabeau Taikou was a fat bastard child, with a good if stilted grasp of Japanese... and a loud and demanding nature. Accordingly, the residents of Mikage-cho hated her, too -- including her step-grandparents. When they heard that she was scaling buildings in order to sneak into them and search for ghosts, they pointed to her uncanny sense of balance and declared that she must be some kind of witch, a reputation she would lean into in order to protect herself. She was a cruel and unyielding girl who only cared about being the best, not about silly things like 'making friends' or 'getting along with others'. She was singularly obsessed with one task during this time: finding her real father.
... in Tokyo (2012--present, 16-17 years old)
Isabeau Fontaine's reputation from Mikage-cho largely survived the move to Tokyo, helped along by the fact that she encouraged accusations of witchcraft. There was just one important change: she wasn't living in her stepfather's home any more, but that of her birth father, Laurent. Unfortunately, the fact that she was born out of wedlock means that Japan really doesn't care whether it's blood or love binding a family together, so this hasn't really stopped the bullying... though Isabeau is at least scary enough that few people are brave enough to bully her to her face, preferring to whisper behind her back and exclude her.
Season 1, Episode 1
Persona
- Mielikki (Lovers): An inviting maiden of the forest who grants hunters her bounty... if she is properly appeased.
Special Skills
- Parkour
- In the real world, Isabeau is excellent at climbing, balancing, and traversing through urban environments -- as well as in trees. She uses these talents for her hobby of urban exploration!
- Ghost Hunting
- The thing Isabeau loves doing most in abandoned buildings, of course, is searching for their lost spirits. Thanks to her parents' wealth, she has a full suite of ghost hunting equipment, including an EVP Recorder, EMF Meter, thermal imaging camera, and night vision goggles... and an ouija board, naturally. (Much of this equipment is a little outdated, having come from her late mother, but the average teenager surely can't tell.) While all of her efforts are firmly rooted in the real world -- she has no real spiritual talents -- Isabeau enthusiastically believes in her techniques.
- Tennis
- Isabeau has been playing tennis since late in primary school, and has a vicious technique and strong talent in the sport... though she's absolutely terrible at doubles.
- Ambidextrous
- Isabeau goes both ways in many things -- including what hand she's using to complete a task. This gives her a good advantage in tennis!
- Songstress
- Isabeau has an excellent soprano singing voice, and receives voice coaching from a retired professional performer. She has ambitions to make it on the stage, though she's been strongly discouraged from the idol life, but she struggles with the interpersonal back-end.
- Sculptor
- Isabeau's other creative hobby is creating works of sculpture, primarily working in clay, wood, and paper-mache.
- Better In French
- Despite her Japanese being a touch stilted due to struggles with the language (on top of terrible difficulties reading kanji), Isabeau is an excellent communicator in French. She even struggles much less with English than Japanese, owing to exposure at a younger age and the greater similarities between the languages.
- Friend To All Cats
- Despite her antipathy towards humanity, Isabeau is kind to stray cats, feeding them and caring for them. She can befriend almost any cat!
Soundtrack
- Main Theme ~ Oh No! - Marina And The Diamonds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54PEbU2Cgwg
- One track mind, one track heart / If I fail, I'll fall apart / Maybe it is all a test / 'Cause I feel like I'm the worst / So I always act like I'm the best

Significant NPCs
- Fleur Laporte (The Wheel of Fortune)
- Isabeau's Quirky Weird Girl Super Fun And Random Mother, who was an artist by profession (though she didn't have to work terribly hard with her rich family). She loved dangerous men and dangerous pastimes, including surfing. This would ultimately lead to her death.
- Yutaka Taikou (The Hanged Man)
- Isabeau's relatively far more grounded stepfather, whose past is shrouded in mystery. He loved Isabeau more than she thought he did, but unfortunately, his parents didn't love her, and the weights he carried made him unwilling to fight for Isabeau's custody once he was sure Laurent was really her birth father.
- Guen "Bambarina" Bamba (The Devil)
- An older, grizzled woman who acts as Isabeau's voice coach... while constantly telling her she'll never make it in the industry.
