Chapter 3: Want To Be Close
What do you mean I need to fill out an application?
Look, we get it. It sounds like a really high bar for entry! However, we as staff require an application to be filled out in order to play on the Velvet Room MUSH. The reason we do this is to be certain that your character concept fits the game.
Our application is here: Character Application
The idea of an application can cause some people some rather intense anxiety. Rather than looking at it as an adversarial process, we recommend that it be seen as collaborative. We're not here hovering with a 'Reject' rubber stamp, ready to put it on your application. We want people to play on our game, and we want them to have fun.
We're here to help! A response that asks for clarification or edits is never a rejection. It is instead meant to be a guide to help you get the character on the grid.
Application Tips
- Do you want to play as an OC(Original Character or FC(Feature Character)? If it's the latter, log on and use the command +fclist 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 to see available FCs from the associated Persona Game. You can also check by +arcana X Where X is as an example, Fool, Hermit, Temperance, etc. If the character is marked with a green Y, it means they're available for application. If it's a red N, it means the character is currently played, or unavailable.
- It's not impossible that some FCs have had previous players. It's easy enough to find that out, just ask as a Guest. If that's the case, then you're not expected to acknowledge their 'take' on the character. We're more interested in your own. It will be up to you what, if any role play history that you'd like to honor from prior players.
- When making a character, be certain to give them reasons to get involved! Playing a wallflower that never interacts with anyone- or a standoffish character that isn't willing to socialize with others, makes it difficult for you to succeed without baking in active reasons for them to scene and interact with others.
- If your character has any in character secrets, they must be in the application or applied for later with a Request. It may be a secret to everyone in game, but staff needs to know these things.
- If you want to 'cross theme' your character so to speak, we encourage this. A character from Persona 3 can absolutely be a Sumaru City Rumormonger. Whereas a character from Persona 2 may have survived the SEBEC Scandal or Snow Queen Crisis from Persona 1. If you'd like to do this, put it in the application in detail!
Be Our Guest!
So you're checking us out, and logging on as a guest. We're eager to have you! Often that comes with all kinds of greetings and people eager to find to try and assist you with figuring things out
As a Guest, feel free to ask questions on the +guest channel, or by utilizing say to talk to people.
However, we ask two things of our guests.
Don't be a jerk! - This is self explanatory. If you're talking about a subject and someone asks you to stop, please respect it.
Don't play Coy - If you want to withhold who you are, then feel free to tell people in the lobby it's a matter of privacy. However, many of us have long past histories here on this circuit. Playing coy with 'Wouldn't you like to know?' or having people play Guessing Games is quite off-putting rather than playful.
Note: You'll be required to at least state your age, common handle, and past MUSH history in your application. Staff will keep this private.
