"The strong and the smart devour the weak. That is the natural order of things."
Junya Kaneshiro is a Yakuza boss based out of Shibuya. He rose to power in the Yakuza through ruthlessness and a philosophy that people are either weak -- and thus victims -- or the strong, who must take advantage of the weak. He is obsessed with status and wealth, seeing excess as a sign of status and a way to lift himself up after growing up poor. This ruthless nature, and his ability to manage large-scale confidence schemes that have caught high school students in his clutches, has made him feared in the criminal underworld. However, both his ruthless cruelty and his gluttonous obsession with wealth hide the insecurities about his upbringing and true worth.
Major Events
Season 1, Episode 1
Kaneshiro, through his Yakuza clan, ran a scheme in Shibuya: offering work to students from Shujin Academy, which entailed low-level criminal acts, and then using that to blackmail them. At the same time, he sought to move into the Hirasaka Ward of Sumaru City, starting with the forcible acquisition of the Cardboard Dragon. In so doing, he made an enemy of Myunghon Yeo and her friends.
Makoto Niijima sought to protect Shujin's students, but her intervention led to her being blackmailed by Kaneshiro. However, the Phantom Thieves supported her -- and she joined them after a first foray into his Palace. Afterward, as rumors spread about the Palace, the Phantoms and Myunghon's explored the Palace. They were attacked by Strega, who a mysterious third party hired to attack them.
The Phantom Thieves ultimately managed to steal his Treasure. Kaneshiro's Shadow, with a massive robot called Piggytron, attacked both them and Myunghon's allies. Myunghon and Makoto -- now calling herself Queen -- ultimately defeated his Shadow. The man in the black mask appeared, nearly killing Kaneshiro's Shadow, but he vanished before the bullet could strike. The man in the black mask vanished after. A few days later, Kaneshiro confessed to everything and was arrested by members of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, including Reiko Shimizu. His trial was scheduled after, with Sae Niijima serving as prosecutor.
