Gekkoukan High School
A terrible tragedy occurred Ten Years Ago due to the last generation meddling with forces beyond their ken. That same generation is also wholly unable to field the crisis. What choice do they have but to lean on the next?
The Kirijo Group created Gekkoukan High School on the site of their old lab, partly to field the crisis they created but also to camouflage the presence of Tartarus from the public. As a result, for good or ill, they're afforded great power in the running of the school.
Gekkoukan High School has thus become the school of 'responsibility,' where the children are forced to step up young in order to deal with the problems the last generation is atoning for. Here the students have increased power and agency in school affairs. Indeed, the Student Council here is often considered more powerful than many of the faculty due to Mitsuru Kirijo's presence as its President.
But how do students who are ostensibly victims of the last generation's sins deal with being the ones forced to fix it? How do they live their lives trying to deal with grief while trying to live a normal, upright school existence?
These are the questions that many Gekkoukan Students are forced to ask themselves each and every day of their lives. Yesterday contains the many terrible tragedies that shape us, and death looms as the inevitable end of our journey, perhaps far closer than it ought to...
...yet we must still go to school today.

Primary Schooling
Gekkoukan High School has both an elementary school and a middle school associated with it, though they aren't in the same building as the high school. They are, as expected, Gekkoukan Elementary School and Gekkoukan Middle School. People who apply for a character who attends Gekkoukan High are free to establish in the app that they've been attending since the start of elementary school or that they transferred in from a different school system at some point.
Campus and Culture
Gekkoukan High School has a gorgeous modern campus, built only within the past ten years. Students enjoy luxuries that most Japanese schools don't as a result; for example, central air and heating!
Tatsumi Port Island itself enjoys a history of French urban planning, and the Kirijo Group has many business ties in Europe, which results in both a foreign exchange program and an expansive studio and performing arts program that's renowned throughout Japan! Some students come from abroad to study at Gekkoukan as part of a desire to live in Japan, while local students exchange outwards to attend university abroad someday.
The Sword and Staff statues within the lobby were gifts from the Nanjo Group to the Kirijo Group during the rebuilding of Tatsumi Port Island and are emblematic of the two groups coming together again in the wake of the tragedy. Upon them is the placard 'Two in harmony surpass one in perfection' representative of the groups' philosophy. Not only do the Sword and Staff represent a duality of masculinity and femininity, Emperor and Empress, but they also depict evolution and strength, as well as knowledge and youth. It is intended to be a lesson of the unity of elements, and cooperation required for not merely a fulfilling school life, but for the journey of life itself.
Every student is thus encouraged to take at least one cultural club while at Gekkoukan in order to discover whether they have talents in the arts that may not have been otherwise discovered. Its arts program has caused many students to reexamine their plans for the future thanks to the opportunities afforded to them.
Gekkoukan has a dedicated staff of odd but passionate teachers who have extensive knowledge on a wide range of esoteric subjects, giving students opportunities towards a balance between sports, the arts, and even esoteric academic disciplines such as the theory of the occult.
The school has an unofficial online forum called the 'Moonlight Channel' for those who desire to post anonymously about the school. The URL is kept somewhat under wraps, but any Rumormonger worth their salt knows it.

Prominent Students
- Mitsuru Kirijo - The heiress to the Kirijo Group and Student Council President, rumored--correctly, mind you--to have more power as a third-year student than any teacher at Gekkoukan High School. She has a reputation for being an even-handed and dutiful leader, but also an 'Ice Queen' to the boys who seek her attention.
- Akihiko Sanada - A third year and the boxing club captain with a nationwide reputation for his abilities in the ring thanks to having never lost a match to date. However, like his friend and classmate Mitsuru, he's also known for being dismissive towards his many admirers at Gekkoukan High.
- Hidetoshi Odagiri - The disciplinary committee representative on the Student Council and a consummate stick in the mud, if you ask any of his classmates who've clashed with him over some minor uniform violation.
- Keisuke Hiraga: The leader of the art club. Since his father is a renowned physician, he's everyone's go-to whenever there's a health emergency, often seeking him out over Nurse Edogawa's latest cure-all. He says he wants to be an artist, but given his assessment skills, it's like fate has conspired against him.
- André Laurent Jean Geraux: A transfer student from France, nicknamed Bébé; often the subject of gossip for being a Japanophile here for studies abroad. His broken Japanese makes many students uncomfortable, leading to him being something of a pariah. Still, being a foreigner going to school in Japan is just going to make one stand out as a matter of course.

Prominent Faculty
- Shuji Ikutsuki: Chairman of Gekkoukan High and faculty advisor of SEES. A man with a propensity for puns and a seemingly unserious attitude, he serves as the liaison between the Kirijo Group and Gekkoukan High School.
- Principal Sato: The Principal is mostly considered a bumbling figurehead whose leadership style amounts to copying Mitsuru Kirijo. Many a school assembly has him simply giving a rehashed version of her own speeches throughout the year. (He has no name in canon; staff has given one to him for the purposes of Velvet Room MUSH.)
- Isako Toriumi: The composition teacher and homeroom teacher for Class 2-F, Miss Toriumi is a laidback but unforgiving individual with a propensity for venting to her class about the challenges of a career and adulthood. She's rumored to have problems with drinking outside of the classroom, but if so, her ability to field a hangover is remarkable.
- Ono-sensei: The Japanese history teacher, Mr. Ono is well known for wearing a kabuto helmet during class and has a passion for samurai that exceeds even many film enthusiasts. Rumored to have a sister who is similarly passionate about Egyptian history that he doesn't get along with.
- Takenozuka-sensei: A physics teacher with a broad knowledge of other sciences, he's begun to have a reputation as a rather careless personality with a propensity for throwing other students under the bus for his mistakes.
- Ounishi-sensei: A science teacher and well-known train enthusiast. She's also serving as a club advisor for the Library Committee. Despite being quite knowledgeable, she's known for her chronic fatigue and complaints of 'not wanting to teach' today. Still, her classes always tend to be attention-grabbing for her casual knowledge of a wide array of subjects.
- Ekoda-sensei: Being the most 'normal' faculty member here isn't a point in Ekoda-sensei's favor, because as a staunch traditionalist, he constantly puts his low opinion of this generation and criticism of other faculty on full display. He teaches Japanese literature, which should come as little surprise in this regard.
- Kanou-sensei: The economics and ethics teacher is one of the most popular amongst the boys at Gekkoukan for how she carries herself and keeps herself in shape as the club advisor for both tennis and volleyball. This unfortunately has led to several incidents of 'mistaken impressions' of her students thinking she's fallen for them.
- Terauchi-sensei: Teaching both English and Japanese is a younger teacher and newlywed who can't help but gush about her husband who's on a missionary trip to India. Still, she's such a positive individual that she can't help but be beloved amongst her students.
- Matsuhira-sensei: The art teacher and drama club advisor, her blonde dye job that seemingly flaunts school rules and propensity for stirring the pot for student troubles has made her a controversial faculty member to say the least. Has been part of several minor scandals where students in her good graces are favored to get the parts in the school plays, causing clashes with President Kirijo.
- Miyahara-sensei: A buck-toothed mathematics teacher with a love for the aesthetics of numbers and equations to the point of distraction. Known for often making problems more convoluted simply because the elegance of the problem matters to him. Nevertheless, he's quite popular among the more artistically inclined students for being able to speak their language when it comes to numbers.
- Edogawa-sensei: The school nurse, serving as faculty advisor to the Health Committee. Enjoys tinkering with strange medicinal concoctions to tackle human health. Surprisingly, he takes an active hand in lectures with a wide knowledge of the history of the occult, astrology, mythology, tarot and psychological disciplines in a subject he calls 'integrative learning.'
OC Guidance
Not everyone who goes to Gekkoukan has to be someone with a tragic backstory! Just as valid are students who simply have an interest in the arts and desire the opportunities that are afforded them. If you're looking to app a young foreigner who's studying in Japan, Gekkoukan might be the place for them. Concepts that wish to explore both the meaning of ~ * True Art * ~ are just as valid as people struggling with a path laid out for them and/or a passion for a life's path that's undervalued by society in general.
Also quite valid are concepts that are about struggling with gendered and familial expectations. For example, Fuuka Yamagishi struggles with having a passion towards electronics and technology that's seen as unfeminine, while also having difficulty learning to cook. Mitsuru Kirijo grapples with the need to marry for the future of the Kirijo Group, just as Bébé grapples with his desire to remain in Japan despite the family expectation that he return home.
But if you want to grapple with trying to struggle with the 'Answer' to what life is, when death is the inevitable end and past tragedies define your character's existence, then Gekkoukan is certainly the correct place for them to figure out how one must live with that looming mortality hanging over them.
OOC Minutia
- Many clubs are not fleshed out. People are welcome to claim them as their own, or add new ones accordingly. If you do the latter, then consider what their budget proposal to Mitsuru Kirijo might have looked like to justify the funding.
- Fuuka Yamagishi hasn't founded either the Cooking Club or the Tech Club yet at the start of the game to give a player more room to pace her arc.
