Ririka was recognized from a very young age to have a prodigious talent for music, easily taking to and excelling at the piano starting in elementary school. Nowadays she has broadened her musical horizons, forming the rock band Polychord and making a new name for herself and her bandmates. But a recent awakening and a newfound knowledge of the supernatural has threatened to throw a lot of complications into her life. Ririka is dedicated and a hard worker, constantly practicing to improve her skills, and is dedicated to helping her band members shine as well. But the death of her older brother Toshiaki one and a half years ago has also left her grieving and determined to carry the weight of this grief alone, for fear of not living up to her sterling reputation... and the deep cracks in her foundation are starting to show. In supernatural spaces she acts as a Navigator, using her keen ear to sift through the static looking for the clear tones hidden within, and in combat she provides support and encouragement to her allies.

Background

From a very young age, Ririka was hailed as a prodigious musical talent, easily picking up and playing piano at a high level. She also displayed a talent for easily listening to and analyzing music as well. Her older brother, Toshiaki, was also recognized to be similarly talented academically, and the two of them because the standout talents of the Kawase family from their elementary school days. The attention and pressure that came with this recognition meant they formed a close bond... but unfortunately this meant their middle sister, Ichika, whose talents were not as visible, often went unnoticed.

In middle school Ririka expanded her musical ambitions. She didn't give up piano, of course, but she wanted to learn to play the guitar. Together with her childhood best friend Emi, she eventually assembled a group of musicians to have informal jam sessions with, who would then later take on the name Polychord. Ririka has since split her attention between her classical piano and rock band endeavors.

Toshiaki's sudden and unexpected death in September 2010 sent ripples through the family, and Ririka has never fully recovered from losing her closest supportive bond... not that most people would realize this, of course. Ririka grieved in all the appropriate ways, but then pretended to be okay and started trying to carry the burden of both her grief and her sterling reputation alone.

Ririka's Persona is Amphion!

Description: Amphion is a man made of polished dark gray stone with red LEDs for eyes, wrapped in a greek toga and wearing heavy boots wrapped in gold chains and padlocks that force him to take slow, lumbering steps. He wears a pair of large headphones around his neck, and carries a gleaming gold lyre with ephemeral strings that occasionally flicker into existence.

All Ririka has ever wanted to do was to reach out to other people with her music, often finding it easier to express herself that way than otherwise. Amphion helps her do this, enabling her to send her song and her thoughts to others in supernatural spaces. This makes her a Navigator, and she sifts through the signals of Resonance with the help of a pair of headphones Amphion places on her head.

Special Skills

Ririka is, of course, a notable musician. Piano was her first and still greatest love, but she is also skilled with a guitar, whether acoustic or electric. She's got a keen ear for listening to and breaking down musical compositions, and has also demonstrated perfect pitch.

She's also not too bad on a skateboard. It's pretty good stress relief, honestly.

Approaches:

1. Music Talk (Academics): Ririka might have a natural talent, but she's also practiced really hard to refine it, and more importantly, she's studied music extensively. She's also pretty broadly listened, so if you want music theory tidbits or random band trivia... she's got you covered.

2. Band Leader (Charm): Ririka has her shy, quiet, and reserved moments, to be sure... but a lifetime of performing has given her a well of show energy to tap into. After all, getting a crowd hyped up for a show is just as important as having good music to keep the energy going.

3. Impromptu Performance (Proficiency): Ririka loves music. Give her a piano or a guitar and she will happily play you a song on the spot. Give her a skateboard and she'll do a few quick tricks for you, too.
