Hana Fukami is the host of Flower Talk, a popular daytime talk show out of Tokyo that is especially loved among housewives. She is known for her calm cheer and her easy charm, as well as her ability to get guests to open up and talk about themselves. Hana is also noted for being something less common in TV these days: an out transgender woman. This seems a selling point rather than a detriment to her audience, who like her seemingly effortless femininity. Under the surface, though, she has some darker feelings about the fact that her gender is used as a gimmick, and wishes that more was made of her talents and accomplishments instead. Still, she's an ideal Japanese woman: she doesn't fight about it. Maybe success is enough.

Background

Originally from Aira in Kagoshima prefecture, Hana was born to a firefighter and a secretary to a Kirijo Group executive. In 1998 she and her family moved to Iwatodai, which was a great opportunity for her father--for some reason, in the wake of the incident on Port Island, they really needed firefighters.

She went to Gekkoukan Middle School, lost her accent, and moved onto Gekkoukan High School a few years later. An upstanding member of the Drama Club, she was the top of her class, and would end up Vice Pressident of the Student Council to her best friend Reika's President.

After graduation, Hana attended the University of Tokyo, and made a lot of friends where she came to live in the Shinjuku ward--especially among the gay culture there. Her theatre friends got her into a lot of fun events, and she came to love film, not just theatre.

Her brothers get married over time, and she starts her first job in TV as an office production assistant. Thanks to her parents introducing them, she even gets into a relationship with a nice girl, Naho Enomoto. ...But it ends badly; Naho's brother catches wind of a few facts about Hana, and after an altercation, Hana ends up in the hospital... less one job.

This is because back then, she was Touri, a gentle young man who liked men and women both. She didn't press charges, mostly at Naho's request--but eventually, after some time with her brother and sister-in-law, she decides to come out as a transgender woman. She gets the name 'Hana' from her parents, and her uncle helps her get a new job at a new network.

From there, it was from assistant to taking a few roles on television to eventually getting to co-host a talk show! ...Somehow, her gender status is leaked to the public, but rather than sinking her it seems to make her more popular among her housewife audience.

So, with a new show and job, a new boyfriend, and more or less a new life, Hana set out on the next stage, prepared for the world ahead!

Hana meets Yua Ijuuin and an old 'friend', Kimitake Ijuuin, as interview subjects on her show, along with meeting a lot of other new people as she starts to integrate with the Persona-users of the Tokyo area--though she isn't one herself. Contacts like Shinobu Shimazu, Remi Ryuuja, and Goro Akechi expand her understanding. At the same time, her relationships start to blossom. She gets closer to her boyfriend Teruo, but also her friendship with Emisa turns romantic too, and with Emisa's girlfriend Miyako. Life seems ideal, if with a lot of secrets for her to hide to maintain her 'clean' image.

Then, though, Yua revelas the dark secrets of the New World Order to her, if not by that name, and challenges Hana's very conception of the world. Will she find it in her to rebel against the shadows that threaten to swallow her, or will she bow to the status quo?

Akino Yamamoto Kiki VII. The Chariot Co-Hostess 25/F. Bright and bombastic, Kiki wears flashy clothes and asks questions. She loves her job, but on TV regularly bemoans her singledom for laughs, since she's twenty-five and unmarried.
Teruo Shinoda You, Teruo XIV. Temperance Boyfriend 27/M. A weatherman at TTV, he played baseball up through university. Charming and popular, he's a rising star in the network despite the rumors about his sexuality. June 2 birthday.
Daiki Matsumoto Matsumoto-san XV. The Devil Ex-Employer 37/M. A friendly, warm man who demands much of his employees at Japan TV (JTV) but offers much in return. For some reason, Hana has a difficult relationship with him...
Emisa Higa Sa-chan XVIII. The Moon Partner 28/F. A secretary at TTV, Emisa is secretly dating Miyako. She's given Hana a lot of support, and is close with her despite the fact that Hana is dating her ex-boyfriend.
Miyako Akimoto Ya-chan XIX. The Sun Partner 27/F. A stuntwoman at TTV, Miyako is a good friend to Hana, though she was Teruo's friend first. Has tried unsuccessfully to get Hana into more active hobbies.

Notable NPCs

  • Teruo Shinoda (篠田 昭夫) - A weatherman at Tokyo TV. Loves baseball and board game. Going out with Hana.
  • Reika Yano - A worker at Kirijo Electronics, and Hana's best friend from high school. They still talk today, though Reika lives in Iwatodai.
  • Ikuto Fukami - Head of Fukami Logistics Company, Ikuto is Hana's uncle. He served as a mentor for her after she first came out as gay to her parents, and still helps out now and then today.
  • Akino Yamamoto Kiki - Hana's co-host on Flower Talk, she is loud and bombastic, leaving Hana to be the 'straight woman'. She wears flashy clothes, asks a lot of questions, and loves fun and her job. In reality her way of playing up her woes in love is a cover for being a lesbian.
  • Daiki Matsumoto - An executive at Japan TV (JTV), he was once Hana's boss. These days, however, he's putting pressure on her for her role at TTV, concerned at his own image for having let her go. A tall, muscular man who takes pride in his appearance and his accomplishments.
  • Daiji Satou - Hana's boss at TTV. He's quiet and thoughtful, and has his finger on the pulse of what housewives seem to want. He's a producer, and runs a tight ship--but is a firm ally to Hana.
  • Miyako Akimoto - A stuntwoman at TTV. She and her girlfriend Emisa are good friends with Teruo and Hana. She's encouraging Hana to move in with Teruo.
  • Emisa Higa - A secretary to an executive at TTV. She and her girlfriend Miyako are good friends with Hana and Teruo both. She actually used to date Teruo, but is glad to see him with Hana instead, since she thinks they suit each other better. Encourages and supports Hana.
