"I see you, Sybil! Tremble and quake!"

A now-wealthy Okinawan woman, Yua Ooshiro was a lost Seven Sisters alumnus who recently reappeared. A ballerina with training in several other styles, she works as a dance instructor to help disengaged students across several Tokyo campuses. She also runs after-school tutoring for individuals and small groups in her Aoba dance studio! She's a strange and theatrical woman, but she is caring, gentle, and generous towards the youth she instructs -- though she can be stubborn, pragmatic, easily flustered, and intolerant of laziness. Neither will she tolerate invasive questions, particularly about the mysteries surrounding her. Secretly, she was kidnapped by the New World Order to Blacksite Revelation for the Sibyl Project, forcing her Awakening through cruel experiments. A reluctantly valuable asset controlled by her handler-slash-partner, Miho Ijuuin, Yua is a talented Artificial Navigator specialising in remote interference. Her fearsome, angry capabilities are augmented by a strange Mark stamped across her blind left eye.

Background

Some things are known about Yua. She comes from Okinawa -- her habit of lapsing into the Okinawan pronoun 'wan' instead of her usual Japanese 'ware' has earned her the derisive nickname of Puppy-sensei by some of the students. She's materially well-off, because students have seen her being escorted to school grounds by a chauffeur. And she disappeared for a few years, because Miho Ijuuin declared to the cameras after the 2008 Olympics that she was going to find her. She doesn't call attention to that last part, though, and sharply shuts down any attempts to explore it. Presently, she works as a part-time teacher, appearing once a week at Gekkoukan, Shujin, and Seven Sisters -- and twice a week at Kasugayama -- running dance classes mainly targeted towards students who have disengaged from PE or from school generally.

Blacksite Revelation

A secret laboratory built into train tunnels under Narumi Ward, a site devastated by earthquakes in 2004 and quietly put aside and reserved for the construction of a building which began operation in 2008. Blacksite Revelation deals in human and demon experimentation, though the latter remains in early stages. The Blacksite's methods of Artificial Awakening and the cultivation of their APUs relied on engaging victims in their talents and drawing out their passions, whilst simultaneously administering drugs and psychological pressure until they were able to forcibly unveil a Persona via use of an Evoker. While torture and cruelty were perfectly acceptable tools, victims at the Blacksite were also nurtured to follow their passions in order to give power to their Persona and lend them some measure of psychological longevity in the wake of their experimentation. Each victim at the site, assigned to a specific Project, is given a Number and 'encouraged' to forget their real names.

Yua, one of the first, was "Number 22"... assigned to Project Sybil.

Season 1, Episode 1

Yua begins teaching across several campuses by the start of June, making a name for herself as the quirky part-time dance tutor. At the same time, the NWO begins to demand results from her, and she is compelled to begin tormenting innocents to complete their various missions. She disguises herself as the Bride, Yumi, in order to see to their demands without compromising her daylight identity; this hidden identity at times forces her to remain passive and allow others to be hurt so that she isn't identified.

Following encouragement from her friend Remi, Yua confesses her enduring love to Miho, and asks for the impossible: to be married to her, despite Japanese law prohibiting it. The two of them would go to great lengths to exploit Miho's wealth in order to find a way for them to start a family. At the same time, Yua supports Miho in the final days before they fly to London for the Olympics.

Persona

  • Gretchen (Empress): A lovely maiden who Faust fell in love with, though she hated the Devil and was a good, God-fearing woman. She is loved by Earth, and affected by the Light. At the end of Goethe's Faust, she accepted her fate -- which is why Gretchen is mad at Faust, now, for dragging her out of the dungeons. She's also mad at Yua. Jail bars driven through her arms allow her to imprison Yua whilst she's Navigating, protecting her from harm.

Special Skills

Yua's eye is Marked. This Mark is strange, however -- it is 'Silent', invoking no Demons into the space and leaving those affected with creeping feelings of unease rather than screaming horror. Yua is able to use it to summon her Persona into what would otherwise be a normal space in order to achieve acts of sabotage impossible in the Dark Hour. Whether the difference between her Mark and others has to do with its positioning or her history as a laboratory experiment is presently unclear, but it is reasonable to presume that the lack of respect she receives relative to other users of the Mark is connected to her inability to summon a Demon to eat anyone who spurns her.

Yua's Evoker is a Revolver, accepting Skill Cartridges which she may use to power up her attacks with new tactics.

Yua is a remarkably talented Anti-Navigator, who also has strong Navigation abilities -- gained following a surgical procedure performed on her left eye which apparently blinded it. Her main talents lie in interference and sabotage. She has been seen to be able to create mazes out of her environment by confusing one's capacity to navigate (or Navigate) and disturbing or confusing her victims' perceptions of the space, though she is unable to alter the true physical properties of the area, and cannot create lasting changes in her victims' minds; her confusion lasts only until her trap fades. She has also been seen to teleport in supernatural spaces.

Yua has a strange wealth of information on Navigators, whomst she calls 'Sybils', and has been seen to offer them advice on the use of their abilities. Frequently, she does this whilst otherwise inflicting some evil deed they're attempting to thwart.

Mark Suppressant

Yua was used to create a line of Mark Suppressants. These lower the output of one's Marked abilities in exchange for 'slowing the clock', allowing one to use their abilities more without being destroyed. And these were created and made available to those in the NWO as an afterthought to...

Mark Enhancer

... Mark Enhancers, which instead amplify one's Marked powers in exchange for whatever happens when one hits the ground faster. (Probably nothing. It's fine.) These drugs are, by necessity, extremely experimental, but they are available to those in the NWO brave enough to test them.

Significant NPCs

Tiger

Tiger (Fortune): A massive 20-pound Norwegian Forest Cat, with long, thick fur and enough size to entirely occupy Miho's lap or Yua's arms. He's extremely orange, and very affectionate. He makes a habit of jumping up onto the bed to join them in sleeping at night just as they were dozing off, and terrorises Yua's houseplants whenever she forgets to put out catnip for him.

Family

Kimitake Ijuuin (The Magician): Yua's fiancé, a thirty year old man who presents himself as kind and gentle to Yua despite his imposing nobility. Secretly, he's also gay... but unlike his cousin Miho, he's been willing to pretend at heterosexuality all this time, and he even has an ex-wife to show for it. Yua's marriage to him was arranged by the Ijuuins in order to help cover for two of their queer children and ensure Yua's entry into the family... but Kimitake's hiding more secrets aside from his sexuality.

Yurika Ooshiro (High Priestess): The elderly Noro Priestess of Kukojima Shrine and a community leader in Kukojima, though her advice has more often fallen on deaf ears of late. She's deeply troubled by the direction Kukojima is taking, but she keeps her distance and allows members of the community to seek her shrine for advice themselves. She still wonders whether her granddaughter Yua was stolen away to the spirit world, during those years she was stolen.

Sessyu Ooshiro (Fool): Once a groundskeeper in Kukojima, Yua's grandfather passed away years ago. He was a foreigner to Kukojima, a Japanese man who fled there after a harrowing event... though he rarely spoke of the details. It's through him that the Ooshiro family started displaying autistic traits... such as his drive to name all his children with the sound 'Yu'. (He took Yurika's name, because the Ooshiros were a powerful family on the island.)

Hayu and Riyuko Ooshiro (Star and Sun): Yua's older aunts, who are both shrine attendants working under Yurika; Riyuko is destined to take over Yurika's Noro duties, and she's already a leader in her community, while Hayu believes strongly in Kukojima's cultural traditions... and doesn't approve of Yuna's husband at all. Riyuko has two children with her own husband Harutaka -- Miori and Yoshinori, both in their late twenties.

Yuna Ooshiro (Moon): The baby of the Ooshiro family, Yuna is quite sensitive and easily-overwhelmed, with what the previous generation deemed a 'nervous disposition' -- on top of her autism. Yurika kept her from the world of the priestesshood out of concern for her wellbeing, and she became educated as a teacher, instead, presently working at Kukojima's Elementary and Middle School. After Yua's disappearance, she moved with her youngest son back to Kukojima... where she got them enmeshed in a strange new social group which had formed there. Ever since, she's refused to leave the island...

Fukumi "Fuyu" Ooshiro (Temperance): A JSDF Sergeant who goes by the nickname his wife gave him, because he just loves her so much, you guys. Fuyu used to be a fisherman in Kukojima, but after his boat was sabotaged, he was forced to turn to the military for work; this choice left him remarkably unpopular back home, where most locals hate the American bases with a passion. A survivalist who always puts his family first, Fuyu is very close with his children, though his work in the defence force makes it difficult for him to be attentive all the time.

Yume Ooshiro (Lovers): A second-year high school student at Seven Sisters, Yume is a mean little firecracker who talks faster than she thinks. She loves going on dates, and she's an absolute star in English class, too! Don't bring up that her big sister is here once a week, though... she's so embarrassed, she'll DIE.

Yuken Ooshiro (Magician): In his seventh year at Kukojima Elementary and Middle School (the island's too small to have separate schools for each age group...), Yuken's always been a very kind boy; when Yua disappeared, he took it upon himself to take care of their mother, instead. Unfortunately, he's gotten wrapped up in the same social group his mother's part of, so he hasn't come back to visit her either. He thinks Miho is, just, the coolest, and wants to sword just as good as her when he grows up.

Servants and Assistants

Sachie Chiba (Strength): A tall, broad-shouldered, heavily-tattooed nurse who used to be a yakuza, before he realised she'd rather pursue an alternate life path. (She heard a rumour that her old Boss was cool with that kinda thing.) She's a community health nurse with strong commitments to autonomy, rough and plain-spoken and physically capable, and she helps Miho and Yua navigate their health after their horrible experiences.

Eiko Ikeda (Empress): Miho's maid, Eiko is the same age as them, and almost shared Yua's fate, too. A warm-hearted and respectful woman, she takes care of all the household tasks of the Penthouse which Yua doesn't have the time or inclination to handle, though she receives help on many of these tasks from her, these days. Helpfully, Yua's always insisted Eiko not be economically disadvantaged from Miho acquiring a housewife, either. (She doesn't quite realise that Eiko's looking out for her...)

Seiji Sahashi (Chariot): Their primary chauffeur, and the man entrusted with shepherding Yua from place to place -- though he's very good at making sure she's able to get to the car, too. Seiji is a tall man with green eyes, and he's always been supportive of Yua and 'Ijuuin-sama', though he -- and his capabilities-- remain largely a mystery to her.

Dr. Himari Matsuhashi (The Hermit): Yua's doctor at her Rengedai fertility clinic, the woman overseeing her pregnancy. Dr. Matsuhashi serves a particularly wealthy clientele, and so is used to finding ways around the demands of Japanese society to suit those with the funds to secure alternate means. Whether that's arranging for fertility services before a wedding can be arranged in order to ensure it happens, or arranging for the care of lesbian couples, she's more concerned with ensuring people are able to achieve their dreams of having a family than with the methods by which it is made permissible.

The New World Order

Fukashi Ura (The Emperor): The Director of Blacksite Revelation, and a mean tennis player, too. He is enmeshed in the deep mysteries of the conspiracy; it was his decision to present Yua to Gozen. His hands are black with blood, though he rarely has to act directly.

Tomomi Tani (Death): A sadistic doctor at Blacksite Revelation who engineered Pavlovian torture for her subjects, believing that any sacrifice -- of others, naturally -- is necessary in order to reach Paradise.

Natari Konishi (The Tower): A psychologist at Blacksite Revelation, Natari previously worked on Project Sybil before being transferred to Project Hemetheoi after sexually harassing Yua during their sessions together. She has a sick fascination with Yua and her orientation which has led her to further inappropriate gestures... against her coworkers, this time, because her victims aren't really suitable targets any more.

Ume Sano (Hanged Man): A nurse at Blacksite Revelation who would rather be working anywhere else -- but unfortunately, the only employment opportunity she could secure was at the Blacksite. Assigned to Project Sybil, she does what she can to advocate for her victims; she was the one which convinced the team to allow Yua a picture of Miho in the form of an Olympic trading card, her sole prized possession.

Akira Yamaha (Hermit): A PhD student whose research serves as a convenient public smokescreen for Blacksite Revelation; in exchange for their backing, he works there to support the doctors in their work. He's willing to overlook his crimes against humanity, sure that he'll be able to do more good when he's a Doctor of Philosophy.

Rokuro Nishiyama (Justice): An NWO agent assigned to help manage Miho and her team's nighttime operations, Rokuro is constantly dour about how hazardous his job is. He believes that he is being fair, and in his mind, he's right... the problem is, his idea of justice is deeply conservative and misogynistic. He does, at least, have a policy of only sending his women on missions which are plausibly survivable.

Fumihito "Para-Mind"' Shimada (Judgement): An NWO agent tasked with managing Yua's cover story as a teacher, Para-Mind is responsible for getting her quick information about how she should respond to her struggles in the classroom. A 'data analyst' who regularly hacks into systems for the NWO's benefit, he views everything in life as one big joke, especially the fact that Yua is an avatar of human misery.

Dr. Harry (The World): A... consultant...? Who works with Blacksite Revelation to grant them their Skill Cartridges. For some reason, no one connects this guy to the Time Count, despite their jobs and mannerisms being so similar.
